Okay forget about a Bichette trade

He has chronic leg soft tissue issues I guess

He's a 34 year old Josh Donaldson already

Asset management. This organization can never get max return on an asset that they are primed to move

My source isn't a lower level employee.

One of my friends brother-in-law is family friends with the Rogers CEO and has gone to a lot of Jays games this season in the boxes. Shapiro came in one game and he overheard him talking with the CEO.

Sure there is still the possibility that the the Jays out of nowhere move Bo or someone like Gausman, but that isn't in the plans at this time. Things could change obviously and something unexpected could definitely pop up closer to the deadline.

It's not a given that he bounces back (enough to have big trade value at least) and it's not a given that there would be a huge market for him next year.

The market for shortstops at the trade deadline isn't always super liquid. Sometimes the contenders all have their SS horses in place.

All of the projection systems still think he's a good baseball player, that means all of the internal team projection systems probably agree.

If there are SS buyers this year, the Jays would be foolish to not consider dealing him.

Jays are not trading Bo! I don't know why you guys think that. They won't get nothing back. Better off keeping him. Take another shot at it next season. To give Bo away, signals Jays have given up on '25.

Nobody is going to give fair value for an injured shortstop with .586 OPS scheduled to make 17 million next year.

Not really their fault with Bo here

Yeah I don't think anyone can fault the front office for a player who has recently become increasingly injury prone and inexplicably losing his ability to produce at the plate.

He’s also supposed to be in his prime and helping us compete. Just a terrible scenario for both Bo and the team this year

There's a good chance his problems at the plate are related to the injury and his unwillingness to miss games and deal with it before it became a bigger problem.

It's stuff like this that has me worried Atkins will be pulling some mega beta male ********. Tiedemann plus Kiermaier plus Turner for salary relief. People are in here like "hope the Jays trade some expiring contracts". You really want this team standing pat with this desperate loser in charge. Atkins has been a marked man since the Stroman trade. Like the guy who gets raped in prison the first day there. The league knows when the Jays are sellers you can lowball this man to no end.

He has no autonomy, that ship has sailed.

They can probably get under the tax without doing dumb s*** like that, even if nobody wants both KK and Turner, but it would mean giving away Bassitt and Green.

They won't do that either.

Personally I think they should

Maybe it's Green for nothing and Bassitt for a B prospect

KK, nobody is taking his salary even though it's like $3.8M rest of season. Maybe they can clear half of it.

Turner, similar things can be said but again maybe they can clear half of it.

Well yeah, what they should do to what they do, remains to be seen in the next 10 days

I wonder if Rogers intervenes here. The Jays aren't deep into the tax like the Mets are, but I would imagine getting under the tax would still be a priority for ownership when the team is this bad. There's very little chance they can do that if they are just selling off the rentals since KK and Turner are basically negative value at their remaining money. Out of all the players signed through 2025, I think Green is the one they'd dump if they had to move someone, though it's hard to see a team valuing him at $10.5m next season. No chance they move Bassitt.

I don't think Rogers cares as much as the baseball people would

The actual tax money is not consequential but resetting all of the penalties is more important for baseball reasons

100%. Also not the first FO who has to deal with a key player getting hurt and/or regressing. I think Bo is over valued even when he was good. A career 120 bat who provides bottom third D @ SS. 4-5 WAR 3 seasons consecutively is impressive but offensively the high chase low BB approach was always a candidate for early decline. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does bounce back in ‘25 some, but his D is pretty capped @ at a premium position.

I think good chance they do full rebuild. Between now and next trade deadline

the chance of that happening is nearly zero

Pretty well guaranteed to happen. They will sell rentals this deadline. Try to win next season, but it will fail again. Don't have the core. Next deadline they not going to let Bichetti and Vlad walk for nil. No sense hanging onto Gausman, Bassitt types. They will trade majority within a year

And Troltin Joe makes it to the ignore list in record time...

Regarding the deadline, at this point I would seriously consider sending Bichette home for the year. Let him heal up with all the time he needs and also help retain whatever trade value he has for the off-season. Plus, if he is not happy I wouldn't want him being a malcontent around the newer/younger players. Plus, plus, it kinda sends a message that if you don't want to be here then we don't want you to be here.

There’s nothing to ruin with the new guys. They’re all going to the types of guys happy that they get to put on the mlb uniform every day and be part of the show. Good enough to make it, but not good enough where they’ll ever get to take anything for granted.

Cavan Biggios if you will

All the new guys hey? All are Biggios. All are so mid that they will never get to take anything for granted.

Gotcha Connorp. You are very wise. You should really start your own 'super smart 'baseball chat forum.

We would all miss you horribly but you can't slow progress. You are meant for better things.

I appreciate the kind words. I didnt fall out of any coconut tree, that’s for sure!

I’ll try to think up a name for a future podcast. Like “The hard truth w/Connor P” or something, idk.

For you, I think the easy one would be: “Sipping on WrynJuice- Jays talk”.

For now, at least there’s the Positivity thread where you can try out a lot of material in a safe space.

I would highly suggest you talk to Max about making guest appearances, with custom sample sizes in tow.

The Jays going for it in 2025 and finally coming to terms with a rebuild by July 2025 seems like a very real possibility. The one benefit to 2025 vs 2018 when they did the exact same thing is that the 2025 roster should have a position player core mostly in their 20’s, but obviously development has been an issue with this team so age hasn’t helped them recently in that sense. At least it’s better than banking on a bunch of vets on their last legs like 2018.

I’m curious to see if Shapiro has his AA 2015 “I won’t be here to clean this s*** up” moment in the winter. Something like a 7 year deal for Bregman, or something.

I actually think there's a decent probability that things play out the way Joltin Joe has suggested. They trade all the rentals at this deadline because they do want to contend next year. As my good friend jaysblue suggested, if you squint really hard, you could see the Jays add offense (corner OFer, DH, maybe 3rd base), another SPer and some bullpen help via free agency. That coupled with bounce back years from Bo, Gausman, Berrios and hopefully some breakout years from the youngsters and there's a real possibility we can make the playoffs next year.

But - there's also a real possibility that it blows up in their face again and they are big time sellers before the next deadline. Vlad, Bo, Gausman, Bassitt, Berrios, Springer, Varsho, Green, etc. could all be moved (yes, it's unlikely they would ALL go, but they'd all be potentially on the table).

That cookie of potentially contending next year, combined with ownership pressure to keep the dome full to pay for the reno's may ultimately extend our rebuild time as player value will decrease as they inch closer to free agency. That said, in some cases (like Bo and Gausman), their values may not decrease as much if they can rebound next year (v. their current value). If they do pull it together and make the playoffs again in 2025 - perhaps it's all worth it.
