Only thing is I think between all the other signings there was not enough added offensively. Signing IKF and Turner and bringing KK back just wasn't going to be enough. And IKF on his own has been absolutely fine.

They fell back on run prevention, I hated it, you hated it... plenty hated it. They needed ISO and they landed up, flat. I get the change, but it was the wrong avenue.

I don't think it's even a player issue. As soon as there was talk about using the whole field, etc, we stopped hitting for both power AND average. I feel like the boys aren't gripping it and ripping it enough. Everyone has basically turned into a slap hitter trying to draw a walk.

I keep trying to say its an organizational/coaching issue, and people keep saying im wrong and dumb.

 

IMO its no coincidence the entire chemistry/attitude/approach of the offense changed completely from 2022 to 2023, the same year the shift ban started. The same offseason they started talking about having a more “well-rounded” offense.

Whether it's the players or the strategy, it all falls under the same umbrella. I agree that it just seems weird how so many of our hitters just lost their power.

 

Ultimately I would put it on the players themselves. Like if you're being taught something that isn't working in your best interest, go make the adjustments to be your best self. I am sure every player has that freedom, these aren't teenagers we're talking about here.

lol. We were happy. Needed that. Losing again would have sucked! I didn't trash him. Actually after our debate yesterday you convinced me of my incorrect thinking, so I went to a tattoo shop in the SIX on the way to the game and got a big IKF tattooed on my forehead.

 

I just know what IFK is and what he ain't after 2600 PAs. He is a bit like Whit, with a much better mitt and a lower ceiling.

 

BABIP guy who is going to have some hot streaks and lows. Always a + glove.

 

Last year some guys were comparing Whit to Zobrist when he was hot and talking about signing him on a 3/35 ish deal. By the end of '23 all that talk was done. 2/3 of the season to go. Things will normalize.
