The CF was playing so damn shallow on Kirk because of his noodle bat. Thought it had a chance to drop in there otherwise.

Catchers are so flipping weird.

Kirk a sad example (though his book isn't written yet!).

But Jansen is a great example. 16th round pick and looked like a nobody his first 4 years in pro ball. Suddenly he explodes in his 5th year and he's a hot name to know as a bat first catching prospect with major concerns about his defense. Gets the call and he's actually a defensive whiz that can't hit. After 3 or 4 years he's settled in as a solid all round C, both bat and defense. Weird career arc.

If only he could stay healthy, he'd be an allstar by now. Like a true allstar, not the Espinal or Michael Saunders type allstar lol.

We should probably pull Berrios after this inning even if the game continues. We don't want him getting hurt on a game that will probably be called soon anyway.

Someone tell the umps that we can't comeback anyways so save all the players from potential injuries lol

I don't know, we're past the weak part in the lineup. We might have a chance.

Did you guys see that feed of Guillermo Martinez coaching Vlad how to bat….

That hitting coach should be fired ASAP

How much more of a sample size does Atkins needed to make the call.

This team is in the bottom of the league with RISP.

FIRE GUILLERMO MARTINEZ !

f*** that - Guillermo fixed Varsho. He's a f***ing hero now. Vlad doesn't listen to coaches and isn't fixable.

Looks like another 1-run loss where the 2 and 3 hitters contribute absolutely nothing. This is getting pathetic.

I would love to know what they're expecting contract wise. Both are bad defenders so if they're not hitting, it truly makes you despise them lol.

They'll heat up after some of the pitchers get hurt

Then Toronto can stack up a bunch of 8-7 losses

Its so sad that we can predict this with like 99% certainty.

At least it will be more fun to watch though.

A lineup of

Springer

Bo

Vlad

Turner

Varsho

Martinez

Schneider

Jansen

Barger

All mashing homers, with a sick rotation of

Berrios, Manoah, Francis, Espino, Zeuch

I take a day not to watch the Jays. Looks like I picked the right game to miss.

Let's GTFO of KC.

That literally happened 1996-2001 they had both like worst offense and best pitching and good offense and horrible pitching.

I think in 2000 when Delgado almost won the triple crown Halladay/Carpenter/Escobar went from about a 3.80 ERA combined (which was good in the late 90s) to a nice 7.00 ERA combined in 2000, then back to like a 3.20 ERA in 2001 (when of course the hitting went to nothing because they were playing bucky-ball).

lol. Seen it all and nothing would surprise me. After '93 the only two reasonable things that happened are

1. Carlos Delgado started slow but eventually hit as expected and was an icon for 10 years

2. July 30 to Oct 20 2015

Every thing else has been completely messed up with this franchise. Minor disappointments, massive disappointments, bizarre disappointments.

Like Aaron Hill. Like Aaron randomly hit 30 homers than .200 with 2 homers, than back to .300 with 25 homers with Arizona. Why?? I don't know why. Maybe it always happens like that.

That is why Vlad is destined to win the triple crown with the Red Sox in 2026. No question in my mind. It would be no different in magnitude than Aaron Hills 2009 to 2012.

Man the 2009 Jays position player group could have been so elite if the timing with certain players just worked out better.

Scutaro - 4.2 WAR

Hill - 4 WAR

Lind - 3.3 WAR

Rolen - 3.1 WAR

Overbay - 2 WAR

Bautista - 1.8 WAR the next year he would breakout with 54 homers and 6.5 WAR

Rios - 0.0 WAR, sandwiched between 5.5 and 3.3 WAR seasons

EE - 0.1 WAR, sandwiched between 2.0 WAR seasons and a couple year before his breakout to 4 WAR player

Wells - 0.1 WAR, one year before his 3.7 WAR dead cat bounce

What is insane is that they rebounded back to 85 wins in 2010... IF they kept Halladay he adds 9 wins, presumably one or two against Rays/Yanks/Sox and Jays win 2010 AL East.

Was a young kid for 92-93 but I love looking at the old teams between then and 2015 from time to time. We were never really that good and never really that bad but there were some interesting teams. A lot of it, like 2009 was just bad timing.

1998- Good team but we had just moved on from Alomar and Olerud in preceding years. Hang on to those two and we are in business that year.

2000- hit 244 homers, 5th all-time at that point, but the pitching sucked. Halladay broke out the next season.

2006- The Gibby/Riccardi years were mostly good but we had no starting pitching depth and Josh Towers went 2-10 to set some sort of record after being good the year prior.

2008- 4th in run differential in MLB but underperformed our pytho win/loss by 7 games and finished 4th in the division lol.

2010- Good team but traded away Halladay the year before, as already mentioned.

2015- best in baseball but the lucky ass Royals beat us.

2016- team made it to the ALCS.

2021-2023- missed the playoffs by 1 game, and then we have the past two years.

I thought typing this out would be fun and interesting but it was just depressing lol. We did win the back to backs but I know we had some good teams that came up just short prior to that too.

'85 team won 99 games and blew a 3-1 ALCS lead to the '91 win Royals.

The '87 team lost their last 7 games in a row, including 4 of them to the Tigers who ended up winning the division by one game.
