Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 Some of you are acting like Joey Votto is a couple weeks away from getting called up and putting up a 120 wrc+ Votto has barely hit above the mendoza line the last two seasons. There is a chance he’s toast. If you get a free look at Vogelbach why not? I get the free look but at a cost of 2M? He(Votto) was battling injuries and was said to be healthy AF and the ST workout pics showed it, he seems to be in the best frame of mind in his life at the situation, but wants to bang, I say let him show he can bang. I mention the 2M as it seems we were nickle and diming this offseason to stay under the CBT threshold. That means that's an expensive look when it comes to the deadline.

From what I can gather the team may only be on the hook for a prorated amount of the $2 million so the actual cost may be very little.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 I don't think Votto was ever making the team out of ST unless he put on a clinic in addition to both Voggy and Horwitz bombing He and Shatkins had an agreement about him agreeing to a 2 way contract initially, Joey wants to get ready to help the team as he feels.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 I don't think Votto was ever making the team out of ST unless he put on a clinic in addition to both Voggy and Horwitz bombing Agreed. But if Votto was looking good and a mid-April callup seemed imminent then it made sense to just go with Lukes (optionable and already on the 40-man) instead of having to clear another 40-man spot for Vogelbach while guaranteeing him 2 mil.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 Gotta see if Votto has a dead cat bounce in him. If he does it will be glorious. If not, there are some good bats in Buffalo.

Yes maybe all of that is true! Best shape of his life, fully healthy, banging his old HS gf etc But he’s not ready and has what one at bat? They have no idea what Votto has left so makes no sense to throw Vogelbach away and hope Votto isn’t ass

How many times do we hear this each year about 90% of players

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 2021 was his dead cat bounce. You don't get 2 Votto is (was) an elite hitter. It could happen
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 Gotta see if Votto has a dead cat bounce in him. If he does it will be glorious. If not, there are some good bats in Buffalo. Common sense... Wow!

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 I really don't feel that Lukes' bat is comparable to Vogelbach. Yeah, the Jays clearly wanted a LHH bat who is good enough offensively to both DH occasionally against RHP and pinch hit late in games for IKF, so while Lukes made sense from a 40 man roster standpoint, I guess the team had a specific skill set in mind that they wanted for that last spot. If Votto had been willing to "settle" for a minor league deal in February, then the Vogelbach signing probably doesn't happen. This seems to be hedging in case Votto is toast. Vogelbach/Votto on the roster only make sense if Turner is going to play the field at least a couple of times a week, so curious to see how the Jays play it. Aside from Turner, I'm sure they'll want to DH Vlad and Springer occasionally as well, which makes Vogelbach's lack of defensive ability/versatility even more glaring.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 Were you born yesterday? How many times do we hear this each year about 90% of players Slow down, meat. I'm paraphrasing a half an hour show on the man and his expectations, and he is in great shape, you can see his sculpted abs though a still shot on the man, is it false, no? He's a legendary bat and you think Fatty is a shoe in over a legend? Who's born yesterday exactly?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 I've never said he was ready, all along I said he'll be playing in NH or Buffalo until he's ready. Circle talk I never said you said that Fact is he is not ready, they want a left handed bench bat right now. Lukes has options and Vogelbach doesn’t It’s the same argument you used against John Havok in regards to Jimenez. They aren’t punting a guy before they have to
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 I really don't feel that Lukes' bat is comparable to Vogelbach. Agreed. He would be a warm body for 2 weeks is all under that scenario. Would save the 40-man spot and guaranteeing the 2 mil to Vogelbach. But it's all moot, Votto got hurt and won't be ready. Vogelbach made the team and now has a chance to mash his way into keeping the job.

I think this is all for nothing as neither of these guys are on the roster in say like July
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 So I'm guessing Vogelbach will be used as a pinch hitter after the 6th inning for 2b-3b and maybe catcher?

That's my entire point.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 You're not mentioning salary though? That's my entire point. It’s 2M pro rated so like 400K

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 So I'm guessing Vogelbach will be used as a pinch hitter after the 6th inning for 2b-3b and maybe catcher? Yup and occasional DH days against pitchers they think he can knock a couple doubles off of
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 It’s 2M pro rated so like 400K It's a guaranteed 2M contract, it isn't pro-rated at all, that's been my point again.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 It's a guaranteed 2M contract, it isn't pro-rated at all, that's been my point again. Okay well it’s <1% of the payroll I’ll default to them
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 Okay well it’s <1% of the payroll I’ll default to them You will if they miss at the deadline over something that stupid. I understand that they know the first 6 week skeddy is insane. That in itself makes sense.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 It's a guaranteed 2M contract, it isn't pro-rated at all, that's been my point again. did you miss the part about this "advanced consent" s***? I guess if DV says yes before the season begins, the Jays could outright him or cut him up to 45 days into the season and only pay him his pro-rated salary.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
