Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 That's a f***ing good team lol
wamco Verified Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 I wonder how peoples opinions would change on how this off-season was going so far if the fangraphs projections projected the same stats as our offensive players actual 2023 stats. Would they still honor the projections as they currently do? Would they have conviction to say “f that, they are way off?”
wamco Verified Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 SP Snell SP Montgomery SP Bauer SP Urias SP German SP Ryu RP Brasier RP Neris RP Robertson RP Fujinama RP Stanek RP Fulmer RP Loup C Sanchez 1B Urshela 2B Rosario 3B Chapman SS Anderson LF Pham CF Bellinger RF Taylor DH Soler Bench - Meadows, Grandal, Hicks, Kemp Who u take? This team or jays now? What would salary be for that team?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 With some creativity on term and how the $$ gets paid out, Jays can sign a couple of bats. Why does anyone think this when the actual GM is saying one?
wamco Verified Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Because we don’t have a good hitter at 3b or dh would be my guess

Or close to replacement level. Dunno why people are saying it's good, lmao. Rotation is solid though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Can you explain the "2020 led roster crunch" part? Players held out for just 6 days didn't add a year of service, I can't remember how the players who sat out were treated, yet minor league players (despite teams not getting an in game view of them) were one year closer to needing to be added to the 40. Players already on the 40 also didn't use up an option year.

I would say this would be a disaster. If atkins said "our internal projection systems" have them recovering, I would dig deeper into the numbers. Just as many here have done with the current projections
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Why does anyone think this when the actual GM is saying one? Actual quote from the GM wasn't as definite as that
wamco Verified Member Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Here’s to hoping the aaa guys bust the hell out this year. I’m higher on them than most I think. I look forward to going to a lot of games this year. Lots of interesting players to watch

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Then I am telling you. 1 bat! Here is what Atkins said, direct quote: "I don't think we'll add three players. I think, most likely, that it's closer to one." Also, 4 days before trading Moreno last year, he said he was comfortable going into the season with 3 catchers. In other words, your attempt to be definitive is both (1) wrong, and (2) a fool's errand.

Also since that quote he has added one. So it might still be no more added (it isn't).

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 We are def adding a DH unless we luck our way into a cheaper than expected Bellinger deal. My guess is still Chapman on a cheaper than expected deal and one DH (Soler or J.D.), which would make it a decent offseason.

I look forward to going to a lot of games this year. Lots of interesting players to watch Agreed. Besides Vladdy, this is one of the biggest wild cards the Jays have going into the season. If they get a couple "Babe Schneider" type breakouts it will really go a long ways to breaking 90 wins. Even if these players can't sustain it long term (Schneider may not) it'll keep the team afloat for another season with the pitching and defense they have.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 The radio people going on about Soto and how great a year he could have in "that lineup" Wtf. Wasn't he in a better lineup in SD and maybe even Washington at times?? He had Machado and Tatis, Harper and Rendon did he not?

Wasn't he in a better lineup in SD and maybe even Washington at times?? Hes going into a contract year that will decide whether he gets 400/500/600 million. If he remains healthy, I'd expect him to have a monster year for the increased motivation. Judge/Soto will be the best hitting 1-2 punch in baseball next year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Apparently a one year deal for Joc I think most of the prediction sites guessed 2 years
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Apparently a one year deal for Joc I think most of the prediction sites guessed 2 years Latest reports are suggesting one year plus mutual option, will be interesting to see the financial terms.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Will it though? Is there really a wide range of answers? Give or take a million ? 1/13.75 ? Always annoying how long contracts take to make when u can guess within 90 pct of the eventual outcome before the off-season
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 I’m now 100% confident that Atkins is signing Soler or JDM. No way they don’t beat that if they were interested in Pederson.

Show your conviction.
