Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 If the Blue Jays are winning and if Ohtani is healthy for sure! Yup... if we are below .500 with Ohtani, most will give 2 f***s about him and the team. Now if we are good with Ohtani (which we should be projected to be) then its an amazing story. Dudes 30 years old and many thought Jose Bautista would last in his later 30s. The excitement of just getting him will override the longterm repercussions lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 90% of the time, but not here. Honestly I’ve defended many of the 10+ year contracts but that’s when it’s an owner that’s of the Mark Cuban mold, committed to winning if its means seeing $0 at the bottom line and growing the brand. Jays are bean counters and I prefer they stick to the 4-6 year deals You aren't wired right, man. I bet you said the exact opposite when Beeston wouldn't give out more than 5 yr contracts.

So what side of the rubber fence do you fall on, can't have it both ways? We don't Live in Mamby-Pamby Land you Jackwagons!

I want Ohtani so I'll just be excited to see him in a Jays jersey short term. Based on the contract, I'll probably have different thoughts long term. Hard to give an answer until final details come out

Even when the very next season they now have to cut payroll and trade one of the best players in baseball. Great moves in your opinion. Jays try to sign Ohtani and NOW you have concern about these deals? This is either a subtle troll attempt or one of the dumbest takes I've seen on here in a while.

He's been slobbering all over the Rangers' GM dick for 2 years too.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 They did win the World Series and hire Bruce Bochy. So those were nice.
Marew Verified Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 I want Ohtani to be here when he gets booed for hitting 650 OPS in his age 36 season. Would be cool to have Mike trout travelling around to see all the games after he retires in a few years.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 They did win the World Series and hire Bruce Bochy. So those were nice. Ya, which makes C-Pee's objection to signing Ohtani even more hypocritical.

This is basically the exact reason why I said he isn't wired right? Always the contrarian, the back and forth long troll game, he's a weeb badass.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Come on hurry up and sign with the Jays so I can see the Americans squirm
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Do you guys actually think Ohtani will come to the Jays?? His agent is just using us as leverage as every other team does to the Jays. No I don't think Jays get him and yes we're probably just driving up the price for the Dodgers
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 No I don't think Jays get him and yes we're probably just driving up the price for the Dodgers And if the Dodgers bow out, Jays win, imagine the logic, lol.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Even if the Jays don't get him... it's always good to drive up the price so another team has less money to get other players.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Who doesn’t want Ohtani? Anyone? Is this another case of me being the black sheep, because I would be a hard pass. Can you show us where you've said this in the past, connor, with any team? I'll wait...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 I want him to sign here so I can hear the entitled Americans whine He won’t be worthy that contract not close imo how much longer will the arm hold up? Come on hurry up and sign with the Jays so I can see the Americans squirm So which is it, man?! I'm too high for this s***, lol.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Author Posted December 2, 2023 If the Blue Jays are winning and if Ohtani is healthy for sure! *ATTACK MODE ACTIVATED* I love how you've been banging on the "Jays need a star player" drum all year and now that we are finalists for Ohtani (the biggest star in baseball since Babe Ruth) you give a qualified "I'd love to have him BUT he's 30 years old and it's a lot of money..." lol

As usual, you guys just can’t understand anything other than the number 1 and 2. Jays are run like a business. Other teams are run without the bottom line being so important. You can’t understand the diff?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Yes! Perfect fit if true. I just hope we can send Vlad the other way and sign Hoskins or Do a swap with the Mets for Alonso.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Padres got f***ed on their by deal, like some other teams forced to slash. They had a plan in place. Bought the stars to bring in a lucrative tv deal, on top of the gate draw. How is Tampas revenue doing, winning all those games with a boring ass roster all the time, that’s built for nerd envy? Edit: now that the owner is dead though. Who knows how that’s going to play out. You’d think it’s going to start getting managed like a business more than a passion/vision.
