John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Come on guys we all know otani is going to the dodgers. We haven’t done crap since pat gillick left. Please prove me wrong He could very well be going to the Dodgers. Jays have signed top free agents and shown the willingness to spend in the past 5 seasons. Sure, it's probably a long shot but to say the team hasnt done anything since Gillick left is moronic.

I wouldn’t go as far as moronic, but the last 3 predictions I made were wrong and hope Iam again. And pat was the biggest thief in baseball, he got players to come to the jays in exchange for next to nothing. No one in the Jays organization has been able to do that since

polar bear Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Their taters are good though! And their desserts second to none.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Mary Browns has better sandwiches Yeah, my son and I both really enjoy Mary Brown's. The sandwiches and tenders are great and I enjoy their wedges. That said, I f***ing love Popeyes also.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez were shipped to San Diego in exchange for Joe Carter and Roberto Alomar What a fantastic example to prove your point Ian. Thanks for coming out.

That said, I f***ing love Popeyes also. I like both for different reasons. Tendies at Popeyes, Sandwiches at MBs. Their potato wedges are also pretty good. And its not a bad meal at the dome too now. You get the box with a sandwich and taters for $17 or something

Picking up Cone late in the season brought in another staff ace for the Jays. Sure, he gave up Jeff Kent, but with Alomar at second, Kent became expendable.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez were shipped to San Diego in exchange for Joe Carter and Roberto Alomar Yea you're right, future HOF and an outstanding SS certainly qualify as "next to nothing"

Jeff Kent had a HOF worthy career for 8 weeks of Cone. Again, not "next to nothing" The fact he was blocked by Alomar doesn't change what his value was.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Considering where he was at that time of his career yes it was an outstanding trade. You don’t put up good arguments just sarcastic douchey comment. Like a guy who can’t debate but instead becomes a douche *******. See ya f*** face Boy I sure learned my lesson. Next time someone says stuff with absolute certainty without providing any actual points to back up their statement I'll just blindly accept it as truth. You must be a politician

He made a lot of trades that worked in the short term. But quickly went to s*** and 2 decades of mediocrity. Jays got absolutely cleaned out on every addition to those Championship teams.

You just provided your own example, where Gillick gave up a future HOF player for a rental, when you are trying to suggest that Gillick convinced players to come here for "next to nothing". It's mind boggling how stupid this is. The multi-quote feature has you all f***ed up too...just a train wreck.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Oh I do and we won back to back because of gillick no one has been able to get us into World Series in 30 years hmmmmmmm You still haven't made a salient argument as to how he traded for players and gave up next to nothing. To do so, you would need to explain why McGriff, Fernandez and Kent fit the description of "next to nothing" If your only logic is "the Jays won 2 WS" as the explanation...that's a different argument. That would be a justification for trading valuable assets in return for other valuable assets. It doesn't not support or explain your initial claim.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Oh I do and we won back to back because of gillick no one has been able to get us into World Series in 30 years hmmmmmmm If your point is that Gillick found a way to win the World Series - then go with that man. He sold out everything he could to bring home 2 titles and flags fly forever. Nobody would disagree with that. Suggesting he convinced people to come here for nothing was your mistake, because, well, it wasn't true. Using trade as an example is also stupid, because, well, you don't convince people to come to Toronto via trades.....The example of convincing players to come to Toronto for "next to nothing" would be a FA who signs well under market and well, I don't think there are many examples of Gillick doing that.

Way better than they're nonspicy s***. Not as good as Popeyes, but I'd put them above MB
