max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Yamamoto may have pitched his last game in Japan, and not too shabby. Yoshinobu Yamamoto Game 6 JAPAN SERIES Statline : 9 IP / 9 H / 1 R / 0 BB / 14 K (Japan Series Record) / 138 P For a guy that just turned 25, he is gonna get paid. That's quite the pitch count he ran for that game.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Offseason wishlist RF Springer SS Bo DH/LF - Left handed bat through trade 1B Vlad LF/DH Teo CF Varsho - have to hope for a bounce back year 3B Chapman - Only if it's reasonable C Kirk/Jansen 2B Biggio/Schneider platoon SP - lose Ryu sucks but hope Manaoh takes that spot BP - losing Hicks will suck since I can't see us paying him. Will hope Green is back and becomes our closer with Romano the setup guy. So basically the same s***** team last year? Chapman didn’t do s*** after May.. Biggio will hopefully be nothing more than a UT bench guy and not a starter, even in a platoon. Better hope Jansen stays healthy and Vlad, Springer and Bo all come back strong which we have not been able to achieve from all three at once for a few years.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Imagine if nobody else wants to pay him and he ends up going to Baltimore for like 1/4. Then they’re all stupid honestly
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Imagine if nobody else wants to pay him and he ends up going to Baltimore for like 1/4. yes, crime city makes sense
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 yes, crime city makes sense Like any city, you just go to the section where the local police make sure the area is protected for tourism. Typically those areas are nice. Inner harbor of BAL is nice
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 yes, crime city makes sense How many times have I told you the players in many of these cities don’t live in them or near to the Stadium. The condos by Roger’s center is an exception. I don’t think many players actually live inside the city of Oakland, however the areas outside and around Oakland are super nice. Same with Baltimore and many other cities..

xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Pal there ain’t no way he ends up in Toronto. My guess all along has been Houston and I still think that makes the most sense Jays will need to do something risky with high reward if they even want to come close to the playoffs next year, Bauer is one of those moves.

I agree but they won’t because of the perceived PR backlash. They do need to swing for some upside though
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 I agree but they won’t because of the perceived PR backlash. They do need to swing for some upside though Yeah the team unceremoniously dumped Anthony Bass for simply liking somebody else's social media post so it's REALLY hard to see them being willing to deal with the inevitable backlash of a Bauer signing.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 I agree but they won’t because of the perceived PR backlash. They do need to swing for some upside though It's not the s***** service and expensive prices that turn people off from Rogers. It's that the Jays will be signing Bauer that will push people over the edge. Not one person will leave Rogers if the Jays sign Bauer, mostly because they have no choice. But yeah I know that they likely won't pursue him for this reason.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 I'm not that innocent....

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 I think there’s no difference in fan/media reaction between NFL and MLB. The latter is just becoming more liberal than the former as a league. The only thing anyone talks about with D. Watson now is just how he sucks. Was never really a distraction once you got past the Twitter barkers. Once their initial bark fails, it’s kind of on the next cause

Jays won’t even be connected to Bauer while Houston, Boston, Cincinnati etc will be. Atkins will send a memo out to the media saying you get no more leaks if you even mention us in the same sentence as him

Just they’re really scared for no reason. I’m sure the Cleveland Bronwns sponsors were pressured to drop out too by the mob of angry Twitter lesbians. It’s just not something that would gain any traction with most companies that aren’t scared of their shadow

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Does Votto retire now? I don't think he's a starter anymore. Reds would be smart to bring him back as a part-time 1B/DH who gets around 300 or so ABs. Would love the Blue Jays to sign Votto to kind of fill the same role as Brandon Belt did in 2023. Would be awesome if he won a World Series in Toronto.

I think Belt has a lot more left in the tank vs Votto who very likely would only offer vetrin presents vs on the field results.

It's possible Votto has some magic left in the bat and would be a nice feel good story if he was able to win a World Series in his hometown. From a business perspective, he would be a really nice fit with the Jays as a part-time 1B/DH/lefty bat. Jays definitely could market him and would sell a lot of jerseys. I still think he ends back with the Reds or he retires.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 I get the feeling that they Jays are prepared to open the pocket book even more this upcoming season. Not just the controversial end to last season but they can clearly see the window closing. Is Ohtani a possibility if the number is right? Not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if we take another step in the luxury tax threshold. Jays all in 2024!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 Great PR but a waste of money. Yeah would be a great PR move signing him, but from a baseball perspective Jays should probably aim higher especially early in the offseason. From looking at his last two years, tough giving him 300-400 ABs on a team planning to contend for a World Series, so I take that back from what I said earlier. Still wouldn't mind him as a bench bat if the Jays needed to fill up a bench spot later in the offseason and if he came cheap.
