Ehjays Verified Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Do we really think Shapiro will fire Atkins? I think he will fire JS as a scapegoat, but I don't see him firing his buddy Atkins. I disagree, I say Shapiro announces a change will be made, he then fires Mattingly but keeps BOTH JS and Atkins plus all coaches.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Berrios should have stayed in, but not why Jays lost. The hitting was atrocious, and Vladdy getting picked off sunk any chance of a comeback. Zero f***ing energy after that.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Author Posted October 5, 2023 Schneider facing softball questions postgame. These media people either indirectly work for the Blue Jays via Rogers or they have to cover the team next year and don't want to alienate management. Tough spot.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 I still can't believe Guerrero got picked off He is the only baseball player in organized ball who would get sniped there Possibly the worst play I have ever seen by a Jay

Vladdy is one of the dumbest players I have ever seen and is a terrible baserunner. He got picked off multiple times during the season.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Lots looking brutal but let’s see what happens next season or two Not holding my breath, Varsho has been ass all season long.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 (edited) Absolutely zero reason Varsho should be guaranteed a starting job next year. Under no circumstance has he justified getting 600+ AB's. Edited October 5, 2023 by Jonn

Under number circumstance has he justified getting 600+ AB's. His hitting can be acceptable if it's just slightly improved, he only ever plays CF and we get a LF who hits well. Then he can rack up 3-4 WAR even as a bad hitter. Doesn't make that trade feel any better for the future though.

Forgetting to tag up, getting picked off, trying to take extra bases and getting nailed.... If you were surprised it means you haven't been watching enough games this season.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 The best part about Vlad getting picked off was when he shared his great wisdom to Bo about remaining calm. No not that calm!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Removing Berrios when they did was the turning point in this game People will complain about Gausman and Berrios, but the pitching was fine overall. The offense was a major problem, just as it was all season. The RISP issues we had all year. The exact same s***. Stupid mistakes on the bases. Terrible approach.

Good bet for any player is that they hit to their career average which would make Varsho better than he was this year. Just shocked at how bad he was. His 2022 looked like Teo's 2019 and I thought for sure he would take a step forward like Teo did.

He just has to be between .700 - .750 ops to be a very valuable player. Where he can't be, is plugging the left field position, which belongs to a BFB - a BIG F$%@ING BAT.

Jays definitely overpaid for a .700 OPS CF bat. Could have just signed KK again instead of trading LGJ and Moreno for Varsho!

Ok so my suggestion last offseason was sign Bellinger and trade Kirk to Miami for pitching. Bellinger instead of Varsho in the lineup would have made the entire lineup better. Remember Vlad's big year he was generally sandwiched between 45 HR Semien and a silver slugger Teoscar

We won't ever know what other trade possibilities were out there for either Kirk or Moreno.

Like to hear Atkins response to that.

I commented today on another thread that I wasn't a fan of the Moreno / Varsho deal, but that doesn't change the fact that Varsho is still a valuable piece. I'm perfectly fine with Varsho patrolling CF, the guy is a defensive stud and he might bounce back next year with the bat. KK was a bit of a gamble that paid off - He was more an injury prone .650 - .700 ops guy coming off hip surgery and it wasn't clear if he'd maintain his ++ defense. I'm super interested to see what his market is going to be in the offseason given his age (33).
