Idk im just afraid of the whole 2021 scenario again. Charlie should have been fired for wasting that year and things should have changed but we didn’t do anything. They spun it as “oh look we’re ahead of the rebuild schedule”.

 

This team has consistently underperformed the past 3-4 years and it’s upsetting. I’ll point to the coaching staff since that’s been the main constant.

 

Many of us are feeling this way for sure. I can understand why people are hesitant to believe it because of the hype going into the season. This group still has yet to win a playoff game.

Kirk turning into a slap hitter is baffling to me. He should be much better than this at slugging with that heavy body and nice swing. I have no idea about Varsho but his slugging is way down as well

The infatuation with Kirk I never understood. He had a relatively small sample size of good hitting and everyone automatically presumed thats who he is going to be.

 

I think its somewhere in between the crap he is now and the good hitter he was last season. His body type and seemingly no intent to get in shape screams regression as well. Just like Vladdy and Manoah.

 

Fat boys rarely stay great players for long periods of time in the MLB. There is the rare exception but more often than not they flame out. Thats the exact reason I was pissed when we traded super athletic Moreno in favor of fat boy Kirk. He has to get in shape period.

I’ve definitely heard about the “hit for contact” approach being preached in the org… idk if it comes from Martinez or higher up. Heard it a few times from JS in post-game interviews.

Dude, he sucks right now, but he has shown he can hit previously and he still plays good D and runs the bases well.

 

I remember we used to call EE, E5 and the Jays DFAd him. Couldn't hit worth a s*** first half and was horrible at 3B. He ended up being a star...

 

I personally think it is the hitting coach/es on this team.. For Varsho specifically coming over from a different org where he could hit to this one and now he can't..

 

I would rather have a s*** 1st half and good 2nd half than vice versa.. This can't go on this bad all season... (most likely)
