This is exactly what I was thinking. He whiffed through fastballs for 4ks yesterday and hit multiple slider HRs …. Why even call a slider from Pop? That’s just a bad idea

Jays didn't add any runs after the third. Did not use their left handed bats Belt, Biggio or Kiermair (until he was a defensive sub).

 

No reason for that at all. If you still believe in Belt and Biggio they should be in this game.

 

Good start to the season overall but lack of any good left handed batters is going to be a problem. If they already are so down on Belt and Biggio they won't pinch hit them for Jansen or atleast Espinal it's an issue.

 

Frustrating to see Gallo and Bellinger off to hot starts. Need a left handed hitter that can do damage.

But the biggest issue on this team might be John Schneider

 

You have lefty hitters on the bench. 3 of them actually. But you opt to use Danny Jansen and Santiago Espinal vs RHP instead. If you aren't confident that Belt and Biggio can't have better at-bats than those guys against RHP. I question why they are being rostered.

 

Than we go back to the decision to take Merrifield the 5th place hitter out of the lineup and the guy who played more games at Second Base than anyone this season. Instead of taking out Espinal whose hitting 9th and committed an error in the previous inning to get Kiermaiers defense in CF. That decision immediately backfired when the Jays coughed up the lead and Kiermaier came up to hit in the 5th spot. Maybe if Kiermaier gets that bunt down and advances Chapman to third we aren't even having this conversation. But it was still the wrong decision. Why would you remove the better hitter from the lineup when Espinal is at best marginally better Second Baseman. I understand getting Kiermaier in but why not for the 9th slot. Just doesn't make any sense.
