This will likely be an issue in the Postseason unless someone like Pearson or Green can take on that role of a relief ace not named Romano.

 

Blue Jays bullpen is decent and has nice depth but like Laika said, it's a bunch of middle relievers. Ideally you want to have another relief ace or two who isn't your closer.

 

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think Romano is a relief ace either. He’s just as inconsistent as anyone else in the pen. There hasn’t been a lot of easy innings with him on the mound. His command comes and goes and teams don’t have issues stringing hits together off him. His saving grace is he gets a lot of soft contact but he is by no means shutdown.

The bullpen sucks and some of us have been saying it forever. Looks like it’ll be the Achilles heel again this season. I wanted to like the pen but it’s like a hockey team with one second liner and a bunch of third/fourth line grinders.

I was very confused when they were apparently really close to signing Kenley Jansen. They were offering a similar deal as Boston and after that decided the Bullpen was fine? It’s quite clear they need 2 more back end arms. You hope Chad Green can become one of those guys later in the Season but there’s no guarantee he returns this Season or is overly effective if he does. They definitely didn’t do enough to address a clear need. They keep putting band aid over a gushing wound.

No they didn’t. I don’t know if they think they can turn these guys into weapons but they haven’t done that yet.
