Where do you guys see Varsho batting in the line up?

 

I would expect somewhere in the 5-7 range on most days.

Kikuchi losing his command in the 2nd, nearly all of the misses are up out of the zone, even with the breaking balls and change.

 

Got Marsh looking to end the threat, and looked like he figured out what the problem was. Everything was in the zone or down rather than up.

Why???

 

Not enough contact ability for the fifth spot, although the power is there. Belt/Kirk would be better suited for the 4/5 imo. I also hope Schneider uses Merrifield, Espinal or Jansen in the 6th spot vs LHP more often. I would think Merrifield would be a better option at batting 6th than Varsho, even vs RHP. Varsho should be cemented in the 7 spot.

Another baserunning out this ST. The team is practicing these really well.

 

Hard to blame Biggio when he hits it off the wall and it makes a 'perfect bounce' and 'perfect throw' according to Ben Wagner.

We got him for his elite defense and league average offense. He is no middle of the order bat.

 

We certainly paid for a well above average bat.

There is a difference between on base ability and situational hitting ability.

 

Varsho got a sac fly yesterday, has good overall power. I think a guy like Varsho is exactly who you would want in the 5th/6th spot for RBIs assuming your top hitters are getting on base.

I would hope there's improvement on his batting since he's still pretty damn young. I'm sure our management must have assumed this as well.

 

You don't give what we gave up only for above average Defense at the Corner OF spot lol.

Varsho’s whiff rate is only slightly worse than league average, 45th percentile. Contact is not really his issue

 

I do agree with you though, I would not have Varsho hitting 5th.

No we did not. We paid for a well-above-average player. His bat has been league average.

 

I understand that his bat has been average, but they obviously expect far more or We wouldn't have paid such an exorbitant price.

I will be very happy if he improves offensively, but he does not need to improve offensively to be worth the trade. If he maintains his league average bat, elite defense, and good base running then he will still be one of the best players on the team.
