JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Author Posted March 12, 2023 Nice lineup, unfortunately not televised.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 No streams? How can there be a stream if it isn't televised?
bronson44 Verified Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 How is a Sunday game not televised? Bastards
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 It is just ST .. but another CS. Runner on 1st and 3rd and 1 out. Bo gets caught stealing second. At least the Blue Jays are doing their part to shorten games.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Doing a little radio scouting and Kikuchi looks great.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Where do you guys see Varsho batting in the line up?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Where do you guys see Varsho batting in the line up? I would expect somewhere in the 5-7 range on most days.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Doing a little radio scouting and Kikuchi looks great. That’s a high tech radio!
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I would expect somewhere in the 5-7 range on most days. I hope he never sees 5.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Kikuchi losing his command in the 2nd, nearly all of the misses are up out of the zone, even with the breaking balls and change. Got Marsh looking to end the threat, and looked like he figured out what the problem was. Everything was in the zone or down rather than up.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I hope he never sees 5. Why???
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Biggio ripped a line drive into RF after a Bichette single, but thrown out at second. Bichette at 3rd
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Varsho just missed that one, got a sac fly though.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Biggio ripped a line drive into RF after a Bichette single, but thrown out at second. Bichette at 3rd Another baserunning out this ST. The team is practicing these really well.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I hope he never sees 5. I think you will if a top 5 guy gets a day off against a RHP.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Why??? Not enough contact ability for the fifth spot, although the power is there. Belt/Kirk would be better suited for the 4/5 imo. I also hope Schneider uses Merrifield, Espinal or Jansen in the 6th spot vs LHP more often. I would think Merrifield would be a better option at batting 6th than Varsho, even vs RHP. Varsho should be cemented in the 7 spot.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Another baserunning out this ST. The team is practicing these really well. Hard to blame Biggio when he hits it off the wall and it makes a 'perfect bounce' and 'perfect throw' according to Ben Wagner.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Merrifield reaches on error by Bohm, CHappy scores
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I hope he never sees 5. With what we traded for him, his ass better be able to bat 5th lol.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 With what we traded for him, his ass better be able to bat 5th lol. We got him for his elite defense and league average offense. He is no middle of the order bat.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 We got him for his elite defense and league average offense. He is no middle of the order bat. We certainly paid for a well above average bat.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 We certainly paid for a well above average bat. No we did not. We paid for a well-above-average player. His bat has been league average.

There is a difference between on base ability and situational hitting ability. Varsho got a sac fly yesterday, has good overall power. I think a guy like Varsho is exactly who you would want in the 5th/6th spot for RBIs assuming your top hitters are getting on base.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 We got him for his elite defense and league average offense. He is no middle of the order bat. I would hope there's improvement on his batting since he's still pretty damn young. I'm sure our management must have assumed this as well. You don't give what we gave up only for above average Defense at the Corner OF spot lol.

Varsho should be cemented in the 7 spot. Varsho’s whiff rate is only slightly worse than league average, 45th percentile. Contact is not really his issue I do agree with you though, I would not have Varsho hitting 5th.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 No we did not. We paid for a well-above-average player. His bat has been league average. I understand that his bat has been average, but they obviously expect far more or We wouldn't have paid such an exorbitant price.

I'm sure our management must have assumed this as well. I will be very happy if he improves offensively, but he does not need to improve offensively to be worth the trade. If he maintains his league average bat, elite defense, and good base running then he will still be one of the best players on the team.
