I don’t really get this defensive alignment though. Wouldn’t it make more sense to have Varsho in CF and Springer in RF??

 

Really hope we don’t see Springer playing CF if Varsho is in the lineup in the actual season games. Springer should be 3rd on the CF depth chart

Well there's going to be times Springer plays CF due to KK and Varsho being pinch hit for during the season so it's probably not a real sign of how they plan to use Springer regularly, plus they probably want to see Horwitz and how awful he really is in the OF at least once.

 

I agree though, if either Varsho or KK are in the game, one of them should be in CF ahead of Springer.

And there's probably a pretty good reason that he doesnt' play the OF much, he's one of the guys that was identified early on as being stuck to 1b/DH.

Maybe? Probably his control is just off today. First outing. He’ll get used to the timing thing

Maybe, his splitters were graet as usual though, he was just slightly missing with the fastball so they were able to lay off it. Pitches looked normal. 95-96 fastball, 86 change and even slipped 2 sliders in there.

 

I'd like Gausman to use that slider a bit more often, but he seems to be doing fine without my advice.
