If Canada can’t beat them, I say fight them. That 2013 brawl was epic! I would love Mexico vs Canada 2.0. Canada blows them out and beats their ass in an on-field brawl lol

Yeah I think we've definitely got them there. Our pitchers suck but I bet Phillipe Aumont's 86 mph fastball from his 6'7'' frame translates pretty well to a right hook.

s***, Mexico is way better than Canada.

I was kind of hoping they'd be using a s***** pitcher but I am seeing Urquidy listed. Yikes.

Can Quantril go 5 (team permission if he pitches well enough?

you are correct in that they would want to get team permission. He threw 37 pitches so he wouldn’t have any WBC restrictions on him. He would have had to throw at least 50 to be mandated to have 4 days off

Is that a sure thing though? Mexico could then still beat Canada and both teams would be 2-2 along with GB, which means they’d go to that runs allowed / outs recorded tiebreaker between the three teams.

That would not favour Canada at all since they’ve allowed 8 runs plus whatever they hypothetically give up vs Mexico with 1 mercy shortened game against GB. In that scenario above it would likely be Mexico advancing unless GB really blows them out, which is pretty unlikely.

Yeah you know what, with all these tie breaking rules you need a masters degree to figure it out

Nah, it's earned runs against as stupid as that is, it's pretty simple.

Agreed. Ernie needs to tell the Dodgers he won't play Freeman but he needs him around for his vetrin presents for the game tomorrow. Then at the last minute pull a fast one on them and bat Freeman cleanup.

The next thing Ernie needs to do is start Brash and ride him for 5+ innings. The Mariners will probably start blowing up the team's phone when they see Brash heading out for the 2nd inning so he needs to ban all forms of communication during the game.

It's do or die time and I'll be damned if we let the Mexicans beat us without giving them everything we've got. I hope Ernie agrees.

lol

Urquidy for Mexico today vs some guy named Zastryzny for Canada.

Z looks like a career minor leaguer, lefty, has had a few sips of coffee in the majors since 2016 totalling about 38 innings, mostly in relief and pitched to a 4.42 xFIP. 7.9 k per 9 and about 4 bb per nine. Looks like fastball, change and slider guy.

Here’s hoping he pulls a Skirrow and holds it together as long as he can.

If three teams are tied the first tie-breaker is actually:

Lowest quotient of fewest runs allowed divided by the number of defensive outs recorded in games between the teams that are tied.

This means that Canada might have a slim chance if Colombia and the USA have a slugfest that Colombia wins. The runs allowed against GB don't matter.

Canada gave up 12 runs in 16 total innings against USA + COL. 0.75 runs per inning.

If the COL - USA game goes 9 innings and ends up say 13-9 for COL... then USA will have given up 14 runs in 18 innings (0.78 per inning) and COL will have given up 14 in 18 innings (0.78 per inning). Just an example, numbers might be slightly off if they didn't finish out the 9th inning or whatever.

Incredibly unlikely, but at least conceivable. USA pitching did surrender 11 runs to Mexico and Colombia has an okay lineup.

Much easier to just beat Mexico of course. Probably something like a 35% chance to beat Mexico but a 1% chance to lose and advance on a tie breaker.

Very much appreciate you spelling Colombia correctly with an O, not a U. Good job!

So Cuba moves on to the Semi's. Good game.

They really bounced back. I thought they were turfed early in the tourney.

All comes down to beating MEX for Canada. Whitt has done a nice job using the limited talent he has. In this pool not much more he could do to put us in a position to make it through.
