Scherzer was saying he wanted to play but it was way too early to pitch competitively for him. He wants to move the tournament to midseason which would be a good idea but one that I doubt will ever happen.

 

It's only every 3 or 4 years, right? 6 since the Pandemic, they can Kibosh the AS game and use this time for the short tourney and cut it down in terms of teams.

I'm honestly not sure if you're saying the WBC is WAY above the Spengler Cup, or the Spengler Cup is WAY above the WBC. I assume you mean the former.

 

I think people need to accept that not everyone bleeds Red & White (I'm someone who generally doesn't). Lots of basketball players choose not to play for the Team Canada Olympic basketball team, so it should be NO surprise at all that lots choose not to play in the WBC - especially given the timing.

I think they should have led this game off with Brash or one of their better relievers to at least try and start.on the right foot

Canada is screwed for tiebreakers but the other games have played out well for them. Canada just needs to beat Mexico and Colombia and they still get in with a 3-1 record.

Baseball players don't really care much about winning in national baseball games as soccer players do.

Yeah pitcher injury risk is just too great to ever get true top notch international baseball competition.

 

This is about as good as we'll get. And bc North America has their own MLB teams, I just don't see fan interest from Americans or Canadians ever getting as crazy as it does for the other countries.
