Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I don't know man - in terms of talent - this is equivalent to like the Spangler Cup. Biggest difference is there isn't many opportunities to represent your country in baseball. I know some people just love the idea of wearing the Canadian uniform and representing the country they love - but others don't. I'm not going to shame anyone who didn't bother - knowing Canada had little to no chance of winning anything - when they could otherwise be preparing for the jobs that pays the bills. I mean if you're some no-name guy from GB/China or guys like Dasan Brown (and other Canadians who aren't close to making the majors) - sure - go for it. But if you're Taillon, who just signed with a new team, I can totally see that you want to be with them - getting to know the organization/teammates and getting prepared to excel for a new team. It will be interesting to see if this decision affects Otto Lopez's ability to make the Jays. I get it if you just signed with a new team, or its an FA year, or if you’re coming back from injury or something like that. But the rest don’t really have an excuse.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Bratt looks like he's about to s*** his pants up there. Never seen a guy look THAT nervous before out there.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Bratt looks like he's about to s*** his pants up there. Never seen a guy look THAT nervous before out there. LOL. I must getting old because these are almost the exact same words I was about to post. Poor kid. Just 19 with little professional experience. Must be an overwhelming experience.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 You expect to lose You expect to get blown out even Still frustrating to have to watch a kid squirm and barely throw a strike
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 As bad as this outing looks so far, Quantril was just as bad against a much much worse team yesterday.
jaysthebest Verified Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 This guy is terrible. If you are a pitcher and cannot even locate a strike, you suck.
43211234 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 With this pitching staff are we thinking the 5th inning mercy rule triggers or the 7th inning?
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 With this pitching staff are we thinking the 5th inning mercy rule triggers or the 7th inning? 5th. We don't have anybody available given how many pitchers we used yesterday.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 This guy is terrible. If you are a pitcher and cannot even locate a strike, you suck. Some of these guys just clearly aren’t ready to pitch yet. Quantril, Berrios, etc
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 There's a reason 19 year olds don't pitch against Hall of Famers. Take it easy on the kid. Whitt should have started a washed up vet and hoped for BABIP luck.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Some of these guys just clearly aren’t ready to pitch yet. Quantril, Berrios, etc Scherzer was saying he wanted to play but it was way too early to pitch competitively for him. He wants to move the tournament to midseason which would be a good idea but one that I doubt will ever happen.
jaysthebest Verified Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I don't care if that 19 year old kid gets hammered by overwhelming American offense. The problem is, that guy couldn't even throw a strike.

It is just a for-fun tournament that makes spring training a little bit more interesting.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 This kid, hasn't pitched above A ball with good numbers though. I pray for this lad... https://www.mlb.com/player/mitch-bratt-683352?stats=career-r-pitching-minors&year=2023 There's a reason 19 year olds don't pitch against Hall of Famers. Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 What sucks for Canada is that the damn tiebreaker is based on runs allowed and our pitching sucks.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 With this pitching staff are we thinking the 5th inning mercy rule triggers or the 7th inning? For the team, 5th would be best. Save all the arms, especially after this s*** show.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 where's soroka or Pivetta when you need them..lol.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Is it possible to get mercy’d in the 1st??
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 What sucks for Canada is that the damn tiebreaker is based on runs allowed and our pitching sucks. Yeah that doesn’t make any sense at all. Run diff is the obvious tiebreaker.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I hope that Nick Pivetta, James Taillon, Zach Pop, Mike Soroka, Jordan Romano, et al. are watching this and absolutely ashamed of themselves. They should be.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I'd like to see public criticism of those that didn't care enough to play. You see it in other sports and it puts pressure on them.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I'm not upset that Bratt didn't perform It's just annoying that Whitt threw the kid to the wolves I think they should have led this game off with Brash or one of their better relievers to at least try and start.on the right foot Or like Grant said a veteran who would at least not be nervous
43211234 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Does Buck have citizenship? Might have to get him out of the booth and throw some BP from the mound. Well. Just gotta beat Mexico and Colombia and there is still hope. The run differential will be an issue but mercying GB will help at least.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 There we go! Crush this s***** US pitching staff.

jaysthebest Verified Member Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 It is clear that Team Canada doesn't want to win this game.
