jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I always thought it was a good idea just to go year-to-year with Bautista for like $20-25M, maybe with a club option attached after every season. Kind of like David Ortiz with Boston. Going 4-5 years on Bautista after 2016 would have been extremely foolish.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Have to think the Edwin deal was on the table for Jose as well. I could see a 3/60 or 4/80 being fair for both sides at the time he was an FA. I think the Jays preferred giving Edwin 3-4 years over Bautista at the time. Edwin was 3 years younger and coming off a way better season in 2016.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Easy to talk down the numbers now but I’m sure if you dig up the posts, a lot of people wouldve been good with 4/100 at least. Jays probably too

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Dig them up haha. Someone more versed in the board could probably do it in 1/10 the time as me lol.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Josh Towers was my favourite pitcher when I was a kid. I know he sucked in 2006 and 2007 but in 2003 and 2005 he was solid with the Jays. I was kinda of like him as a pitcher - when I played house league, never threw gas and was never overpowering but always located and focused on control so as a pitcher tried to copy him in that respect. After Halladay went down in 2005, Towers helped anchor the Jays rotation the rest of the way: 13-12, 3.71 ERA, 3.94 FIP, 3.6 WAR. Heck in 2007, he had the guts to beam A-Rod. Definitely gotta give him props for that! Also, big thanks to Spanky for his jersey a couple of years ago!
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Haha yeah curious to see what some posters thought back in 2016 Actually it wasn’t hard, just searched Bautista in thread title. BTS kicked it off with 5/100 and most people settled around 4/100 and 5/100
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Ortiz was in that timeframe and Nelson Cruz and such. I mean, really was hard to know he’d just turn into a pumpkin overnight
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 It's funny that he priced himself out of negotiations and flopped, what don't you get, meat? And yes, you were in the 5/100 camp. D-bag. You’d run the Jays into the ground
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 And yes, you were in the 5/100 camp. D-bag. You’d run the Jays into the ground No way I wanted that term, lol... show me, liar. Until then, zip it.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Tony Batista had one weird stance. Had a monster season in 2000 hitting 41 HR's.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Was really excited when the Jays got Jose Reyes. Always wanted him back in 2006 and 2007 as a leadoff hitter here. Was decent in his first season but sucks his defense was poor and afterwards just became a dumpster fire.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 2 great Blue Jays outfielders
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 And yes, you were in the 5/100 camp. D-bag. You’d run the Jays into the ground I noticed you didn't opine, meat. Also this was BTS' post what's wrong with what he said? ... 5/100 seems like a pretty fair compromise if he maintains his current level of play through the season. Loaded question, I'd do a 4/80 with a team option, or he can walk. The man is 36. Move on to EE if he doesn't like it.. Nothing egregious there, I was on team EE, always, especially after that year he struggled.

Jays probably too that's the f***ing point dude Bautista could've had a six figure (or near six figure) contract but he was greedy and it cost him most of that
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Prob swung and missed here...
