Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I'm good with Georgie manning RF for the next 3 years. Tough year last year coming back from that nasty collision. He'll be a solid guy for us this year.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Exactly... by that logic, we need to get rid of the entire team. Springer's not old enough for me to expect him to fall off a cliff yet. I'd wager he bounces back based on his track history. Even the projections don’t think he’s toast yet. If he gives you 3/2/1 WAR over the next 3 years its probably still worth it to keep him. Obviously he could end up being better or worse, but its not like we have any suitable OF in the minors to replace him.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Springer ain't going anywhere, for several reasons.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Nobody is taking that springer contract. But maybe moving him now lets you eat less of the deal.
ColdPint Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Shatkins and this organization really painted themselves into a corner here - can you imagine the fan reception to Bellinger being the big off-season acquisition at 8/180+? With the renovations, impending fan apathy, and 5 year commitments for premium seating they cannot afford to do anything less than Ohtani or Soto.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Seems like the smoke around the Jays and Soto are picking up. I wonder if the Jays are getting the sense Ohtani isnt happening and are pivoting.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Oh lookie lookie... Manoah has shown up in a Soto trade? Hmm...
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I would not trade Manoah + for a single year of Soto. Any Soto deal needs to come with an extension or screw him. Go spend those prospects for someone who will be here for multi years.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Might be better There's always a possibility, but I beg to differ. Tiedemann holds more value.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 No team would take Springer’s contract and the Jays have no one to replace him, so it doesn’t seem very likely that he’s moved. Manoah in the pitch clock era combined with his attitude make him an easy sell here, so if he’s the main guy going to the Padres, then that would work for me.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Pack your bags, Alek. You might wanna start working on that beach bod while you are at it.

They're probably full tilt on both and are OK with both deals happening or one or the other Salary hit would be pretty huge though if both somehow happened. What is Soto expected to get in his last arbitration year?

If they aren't moved out in trade I could eventually see the likes of Barger and/or Roden taking over for Springer in the next few seasons. Ultimately I don't think either of these guys are ready for prime time yet so moving Springer would ultimately just open another hole on a team that already needs to replace 4 regular offensive contributors.

Adios Manoah… You're assuming Manoah is done while I think he can easily bounce back to be a top of the rotation guy at a super cheap price for many years to come. We need guys like Manoah to pan out so we can spend in other areas of the roster. 1 year of Soto is not worth the chance Manoah returns to form. Multiple years of Soto and I'll drive Manoah and whoever else to the airport.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Jays24 is so so funny lmao
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Yeah f***ing drive the price up on the Yankees and there fans what else can we add to Manoah and Pearson? I'd throw Espy in there and would not mind Crone at all.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Crones coming off a really bad injury but i think he could really help mid season on. Nice lefty bat can play SS at a pretty high level 2.

I'm in the same boat in that I think it's far too soon to give up on Manoah and ship him out for a mediocre return relative to what he can provide if he returns to form. It's maybe not realistic to expect him to continue providing top of the rotation results as his toolset is more indicative of a mid rotation starter, but having a cheap rotation member like him is key to a team that's worked it's way up to the luxury tax if they want to continue adding established talent.

If you can use him to get Soto and as a result in the package you save RT. You do it all day everyday. He could just as easy be a Ricky Romero..

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 The scenario where we could have both Soto and Ohtani at least for a year is to move Vlad for Soto. I think we should move Vlad anyway... We are assuming he will be 2 years algo instead of the last 2 years, and then you have less control and less value. Vlad still has reasonable control to justify another team giving up significant assets and banking on the upside. Vlad sucks at 1b also, so probably be an addition via subtraction to the overall team.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I agree with everyone who wants to trade Manoah. Sign Wade Miley to be the #5, he is a FIP beater who chews innings. Ricky T the first man up. Trading for Soto is like pulling a Kawhi. You go for it and hope you can re-sign him. The fact they’re in play for Ohtani shows a willingness to spend. And a left handed outfielder is one of their clearest needs
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I got a basic trade scenario right now that would have so much money being taken on could be the biggest blockbuster off all time.

Well they're in on Soto, it's going to cost value any way you look at it.
