BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 I dunno. Toronto is f***ed. Seattle probably goes 10-6, Texas probably 10-7. f***ity f*** f***. 2021 revisited. Lit a candle in my window hoping for a miracle here.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 I don’t go nearly as much as I use to. It is nice sometimes but for the most part factory in the hassle of traveling and price isn’t worth it. It’s been tough for me to vibe with this team this year despite my love for the team in general.
Cynical Verified Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Vladdy - fat Manoah - fat Kirk - fat Bo - selfishly cares more about his money and refuses to come off SS even though it hurts the team. These are the young players who were supposed to take this team to the next level. Schneider - keep him away from our young players and hitting coaches. Those are terrible people to follow. This team needs major changes to its culture. It's clear there's zero accountability when young players can get away with being fat, lazy and selfish.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 it's a recession, bros There is no recession, is there? Like on a serious note what is happening right now is very hard to define. There is massive differences in cost of living geographically. GDP is kindof OK? Like not gangbusters but not decreasing as in recession. Unemployment is low Inflation is high, but maybe getting a bit lower Cost of housing is crazy high for some people, fine for others. Credit was easy to get until a few months ago. Interest rates were zero for a long time, now they are 5%. I know I joke around too much and am irrational sometimes. Serious question what is happening with the economy. My understanding... 1. Interest rates up so if you have any loans or debt that are adjustable not good! 2. Housing prices increasing including rent 3. Some other inflation Between the three if your budget worked out fine in 2021 it is not working out fine now... but not technically a recession.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 People really need to come off the ledge. Jays still have a 53% chance of making the playoffs according to BR. Yes it sucks that we've lost 3 in a row to Texas but we can just as easily turn things around and win 4 of the next 5 ect...At the end of the day we just need to get there and anything can happen. We need to likely go 10-6 or even 9-7 to get in. Season is far from over at this point.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Season isn't over but yeah no room for error the rest of the way. Just have to take it one game at a time. Like some have said, tough to really cheer on and like this group given the way they've played this season. Still want to see Postseason baseball in Toronto. But if it doesn't happen, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Even when the Jays didn't make the Postseason before, I still enjoyed October baseball.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Jays best chance at the playoffs is one of Seattle or Texas going at least 5-2. If they go 4-3 it’s going to be really tough to gain ground. They end the season with a four game series in Seattle

If you sneak into the playoffs, there's always a chance of getting hot at the right time and people sure love to say "pitching and defense wins in the playoffs" - which we have. But my expectations are almost non-existent if we do sneak in. In the past, I would have spent some big bucks to go to playoff games and/or take my kids for the experience, but I can't see doing that this year. I am excited to watch the playoffs though. Lots of really good, exciting teams to follow.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Now that everyone is writing them off the Jays might go on a run and squeak into the playoffs and maybe make some noise. Everyone will have to begrudgingly come back into the fold and cheer them on before being gutted by a terrible loss in the playoffs solely due to our overweight players.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Pitching + Defense strategy still requires a big hit most nights Toronto is allergic to the big hit An optimistic person would simply suggest "they're due" and I mean, we're really due. Maybe all those big hits will come over a nice 6 week period?
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 yeah maybe Vlad has been saving 20 more homers for the next few weeks

Going to be tough to win 2-1 or 3-2 games every night though. I'm hoping we see a Dodgers/Braves NLCS. That will be an awesome series if it happens.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Jays finally score 5 but Gausman lays a dump and gives up 7 I'd open with Mayza. Not sure what the gentlemen's agreement is in this situation. Like how far in advance do you have to announce that to give the other team a chance to react? I doubt Texas would change anything anyway. Not trolling or joking on this one. The thinking is Gausman is great. One of the best pitchers in baseball obviously. His weakness that has stopped from winning a Cy Young is that occasionally teams either seem super prepped for him and recognize the splitter and jump on him early, or very occasionally he doesn't have enough control to get the fastball low enough to fool them. Perhaps it is a bit of both. f***it. Open with Mayza in the most critical game of the year. Gausman can still go 7 after that and get a win.,
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Eovaldi was up to 47 pitches his last time out, I'm assuming he's on a 65-70 pitch count tonight, get at em Birds!!!

I’ve been generally positive like a schmuck all season but this team does not have a 53% chance of making the postseason. They need to go on their best run of the season and they don’t have it in them. It’s over

It’s over What you fail to factoring in is that the Jays will gain a minimum of 4 games against either Texas or Seattle because they play each other 7 times. Could be more if one of those teams wins 5 or 6 of those games. If either one of those teams struggle down the stretch were in. My guess is 88-89 wins will likely be enough to capture the 3rd wild card spot.

Lukes has been a f***ing yoyo this season Cant imagine Manoah has any fans in that clubhouse right now. Probably a good thing hes not with the big team. But probably not a good thing hes off being a cancer for the AAA guys.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Nice that Manoah will be able to get to know the guy that will be passing on the depth chart this weekend.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Chapman activated. Lukes back to AAA.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 We’re most likely going to end the season without a single hitter clearing 25 homers. A team with Vlad, Bo, Springer, Chapman, Varsho, Belt…. Really hope the front office takes a long hard look at what the f*** went wrong this year.
