TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Wait why?? He tried to bury a friend (and former board member) who was applying with the Dodgers. That friend was offered the job and later told they ignore AA's references as they are all bad on anyone under 30. This was confirmed later by the Rays as he did the same thing to someone who applied with them.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Because Hurl is incredibly racist and hates Greeks. I thought it was a weight stigma. But then I love Kirk. Now I understand it

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 That's so lame. Should have added that it was after he told Nox (I don't think that needs to be a secret) that he would give him a fantastic reference.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Why do you, you caused all the stink, get a life, lol? Laika brought up a valid point, he doesn't manage the 40 man well, never has, and YOU flew in here and had to protect the man you have on a pedestal for some weird reason AA, pull your head out of his ass while you're at it, that's what happened here. Let's say you're a good team and have 45 players that could reasonably make the 40 man roster on most teams. Then let's say you're a trash bag team that only has 35 players than some other team would want. Which team did the better roster management? The Braves aren't an 85-90 win team with a roster crunch like the Jays were under AA. They are a 100+ win team with a roster crunch. There's merit to complaining about AA's roster management while here because the Jays consistently gave wasted PA to riff raff on the 25 man while also having issues with the 40 man. Braves sending a bunch of guys to the WS where they will be nurtured into a black hole as opposed to watching them maybe land on NL teams and bite them in the ass is the best move he could have done given the situation.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 The Mariners/Braves trade could be one of those wins for both sides deals. But they need to follow up. Namely Seattle using the cash on players instead of just pocketing it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 lmao, the Fangraphs headline on the Kelenic trade is pretty aggressive Mariners Attach Kelenic to Salary Dump. May God Have Mercy on Their Souls Faceplanting into a water feature would’ve been a more productive use of Jerry Dipoto’s Sunday evening than what he actually got up to.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Damn, Laika beat me by seconds Feels like the DDL playoffs all over again
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Ohtani and J-Rod would be pretty damn sweet though. DiPoto has something up his sleeve....
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Ah yes that makes more sense. AA will flip Gonzales to a dumb team for something useful
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Marcos not a bad #5 for the Braves
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Yeah no s***, no contending team would actually acquire Marco Gonzales as a contributor, he was just part of the salary dump. They might as well just cut him, I guess they could try to eat some contract to give him to the Royals for $1M in 2024 for a D level prospect rather than eat the whole cost.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I don't think anyone is giving the Braves anything for Gonzales. He's terrible, and coming off surgery to repair a nerve issue in his elbow.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Marcos not a bad #5 for the Braves Yes he is lol. Nick Martinez just signed for 2/26 in Cincinnati and he would've been a significantly better option than Gonzales at 1/12. Hell, Severino at 1/13 would've actually been good with his demonstrated upside and the Braves' pitching development.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Could easily give u 140 innings at a 4era, gamer.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Maybe I missed something but hasn't Betts been a gold glove level RFer? Why would you take that away to fill 2B?
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Brewers re-sign Miley: 1/7 plus a 1.5M buyout for 2025
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Maybe I missed something but hasn't Betts been a gold glove level RFer? Why would you take that away to fill 2B? I suspect because they think he'll provide them with more value at 2nd base and feel that either internally or externally, they can find a RF to replace Betts a lot easier than they can find a starter at 2nd base?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Maybe I missed something but hasn't Betts been a gold glove level RFer? Why would you take that away to fill 2B? It's probably a few things: 1a. They hate their internal options at 2B / prefer their OF options over 2B - Michael Busch might literally struggle to put on a glove 1b. They think it's easier to sign or trade for a better OF than 2B 2. The positional adjustment for 2B means Betts being a good defensive RF is about equal to him being an average 2B (10 run adjustment from RF to 2B in a vacuum). 3. They have him signed forever for a bunch of money and he's athletic enough to handle multiple positions as necessary, so just bounce him back and forth as required. If tomorrow Jose Altuve lands on their lap I'm sure Betts will have no problems transitioning back to the outfield.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Author Posted December 4, 2023 Brewers re-sign Miley: 1/7 plus a 1.5M buyout for 2025 Interesting that he turned down his half of the 10 Million option, only to be left with 8.5. Sure the Brewers probably decline their part of the mutual option anyways... but it looks kinda weird this way.

But yeah, seems like he misread the market. Actually, forgot about the 1M buyout he got. So a guaranteed 9.5M + another 2.5M in incentives available.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Imagine a healthy Ohtani in Rf and Betts at 2b, pretty good

Must have been some kind of agreement thing that took place prior to Miley turning down the option. LIke, "ill decline my option to allow to you pay me less guaranteed money.. .but you have to agree to incentives"...... "yeah ok" Doesnt sound like he was actively looking for other places to pitch.
