connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 In fairness, Ozuna has a sub .700 OPS in 21/22. He was also one proverbial strike away from being out of baseball. Not bad to have extra DH ABs going into the season.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 I think if I'm voting I'd go Strider. His ERA is lagging some of the others by a bit, but likely leads the NL in wins and Ks, and his xFIP and xERA are both the best of all candidates. Snell is actually the favourite on Bet365 under 2 to 1 odds last time I checked which is ridiculous. Steele is second favourite. Strider was 101 to 1, so I put $5 on him. Would vote for Strider as well. He has the W-L record going for him, and leads the NL in K's. His xFIP and WAR as well are better than Gallen, Wheeler and Snell.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 If Strider or Wheeler win, they'll have the highest ERA ever for a Cy Young winner
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 I think Gausman blew his chance at the AL Cy Young with the last couple of outings he's had. Not sure voters will love the meh 11-9 record and 3.40 ERA when Cole is 13-4 with a 2.81 ERA and who has pitched better as of late.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 If Strider or Wheeler win, they'll have the highest ERA ever for a Cy Young winner Crazy to think of that. Not sure how some of the old school voters will react. If Strider has another 3 more starts where he dominates, he could lower his ERA below 3.50 which I think would make him the lock in the NL. Snell hasn't been nearly as good and his BB/9 is like above 5.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 AL: Cole NL: Snell Cole would get my vote in the AL now over Gausman. I can't see Snell winning given his other numbers like his WAR and xFIP aren't nearly as good as Strider or Wheeler, but voters might like his low ERA. Plus his BB/9 is above 5 which is yuck.

Snell's only issue is walks, Cole's 1, Snell's 2 in bWAR, he's a beast.

He could likely finish the season with 100 BB. Strider and Wheeler have had the better seasons IMO. Just their ERAs are on high side.

He gives up the least amount of hits and top of the league in soft contact, plus the whiffs... he's going to win.

Every one of these guys has *some* standout stats and yet every one of them also has at least 1 or 2 stats that are way worse than most of the others. It's interesting for sure.

You're only saying he'll win because he just became the favourite over the last week or two. He's not a lock by any means.

Yeah nobody is a lock. Things could still go down to each of these guys last couple starts of the year. Strider has the impressive W-L record and K's on his side. Snell has the low ERA and solid K rates.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 Snell gets the Rockies tonight in SD and could put up a big start. The Rockies have the worst road offense in baseball with a slashline of .231/.290/.364 as the visiting team. They are also the 2nd worst worst team against lefties with a .678 OPS. He's dominated the Rockies in two starts this year with 21 Ks and 1 BB in 11.1 innings. One start at home and one at Coors.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Strider just got Harper'd. And Acuna is incredible, such a weapon.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Dude smells that CY If he gets to 20 wins, I think he has to be a lock amongst the old school voters over Snell.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Strider just got Harper'd. And Acuna is incredible, such a weapon. That Harper HR ruined his chances of lowering his ERA below 3.50 most likely haha. Acuna possibly going 40/70 which is crazy. One of the most exciting players in the game. Him and Ohtani IMO are the face of baseball right now.
