Term, I’m loving you volunteering extremely personal information and doing so in a

Very comical fashion. Keep up the good work

Thanks. I'm not very internet savvy but if I can impart some wisdom on the younger generation of Jays fans then I think it's my responsibility to do so. Nothing boils my blood more than seeing a bunch of young retards post bad baseball takes

EDIT: just to be clear here since we’ve started talking about the word retard this kid is a normal kid sarcastically laughing. He is not in fact a retard and I didn’t mean it as such.

Can’t support the “retard” take tho homie. Just retire it and pick a new word. Gets same point across.

Gotta disagree there. There are words I haven’t and won’t ever say. The n word and the f word which isn’t f*** among them. Retard is probably the most offensive word I’ll ever use and the fact that it offends you is proof in itself that there isn’t a better word to get the point across.

They key here will be for all of the Jansen Fanboy and Bellinger Stan’s to start posting less retarded stuff and then I won’t have to use it as much. Cheers!

I feel like you’re trying to overcompensate for something.

Trade Jansen to SD for Grisham and maybe get a mid tier pen arm thrown in. You get a GG CFer under control for three years. He put up a putrid .626 OPS but was still worth a 2.6 WAR. He should bounce back offensively and back to his 750-800 OPS numbers.

I’d do it but not sure SD would…

His Fangraphs WAR is 2.1. Jansen compiled 25% more WAR in 55% fewer PAs. It is not even close. You don't let other GMs rape you in trades just because you need an OF. Grisham is someone you get for a meh prospect.

Trade Kirk for Alek Thomas + a prospect. At least Thomas is 22 and has a decent chance to be good based on his minor league numbers. Also, Kirk is very spherical.

And previous years?? Come on dude… you can’t just look at 2022 and compare the two.

Both are projected for roughly the same WAR over 120ish games (Grisham 2.5 to Jansen 2.9)

Sure. Let's do that. In 2021, Grisham produced 2.2 WAR in 527 PA while Jansen produce 1.4 WAR in 204 PA. Keep in mind that Jansen sucked ass in April of 2021 and only started producing after updating his glasses in May. Projections do not factor eyesight issues that were fixed.

I do not usually cherry-pick, but in this case there is a good reason to look at performance since June 2021.

Jansen:

Grisham sucked ass with the bat all year in 2022 and still managed to produce 2+ WAR. He should rebound to around league average I think, but maybe not. Projections think yes.

Grisham for Jansen is a fair trade IMO

That makes absolutely no sense. Grisham has sucked for the past two years over 1000+ PA. There is nothing to rebound to because he has never been good to begin with. You can find mediocre OFers like him in the minors or in free agency.

122 wRC+ in 2020 and 103 in 2021. He is projected for 106 wRC+ in 2023. He can be a league average bat with great defense.

You act like Grisham is a sub replacement level player, he's far from the worst the team could do when it comes to bringing in a player for center field. It's no given that he rebounds enough to meet his projections offensively, but he's projected for similar WAR value to Teoscar and comes with three years of remaining control.

I wouldn't love a Jansen for Grisham swap by any means, but unlike Jansen Grisham has avoided the litany of injury issues and largely been available for his team. Jansen simply isn't going to bring in a blue chip prospect or elite major league piece, he simply doesn't have the track record of performance, has a very spotty injury history, and only has two years of remaining team control. You need to lower your expectations to something more realistic when it comes to a trade return for Jansen.

Also he’s a LHH and plays CF. Lots to like. 2022 was ugly for him though… no guarantees he bounces back. Still worth a shot though if that deal is available IMO.

Lots of people here wanting to pay Bellinger 10+ mil and he’s been WORSE with the bat over the past 2 years.

Bellinger and Grisham have similar floors, Bellinger has the far higher ceiling.

Yeah that’s fair. But i’d rather do Jansen for Grisham and then pick up Conforto or something. 3 yrs control on Grisham gives us time to find a better CF.

Instead of paying Bellinger 10 mil to likely suck, and you’re in the same situation trying to find a CF for 2024.

Bellinger has displayed a sub replacement level floor vs Grisham who has displayed a floor of about 2 WAR, so I'll give the victory to Grisham on that count. Bellinger's best seasons were produced with baseballs which were far livelier than the mushy cored crap that MLB used last season, and his plate discipline, walk numbers and k rates have all been trending in the wrong direction. I don't think he's likely to return to any more than league average with the bat without some drastic improvements.

There is no reason to trade for Grisham when you can sign Kiermaier. You don't trade a 140 wRC+ catcher for a sub 90 wRC+ decent defensive OF. One is much harder to find than the other.

What would you actually be willing to trade Jansen for? You act as though he is basically untouchable. Keep in mind this is a player who has been injured so frequently he's only managed to appear in 142 games over the last two seasons. For comparisons sake George Springer, who takes far more s*** than Jansen for being injury prone, has still managed to appear in 211 games in the same span of time.

Why would San Diego do that?

Why would San Diego do that?

Because their catching tandem production was absolutely awful at 0.5 WAR. This is easily the biggest weakness on that team. That certainly creates issues in the outfield for them though as they stand to potentially lose Profar in free agency.

Have you seen their OF depth, never mind CF? It would never happen. Catching is their furthest need, it isn't dire with Campusano coming in.

Just thought of that as well and edited the previous post to reflect that reality.
