Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 That Mariners team was dog s***. Glad they didn’t go on some miracle run. Still annoying the Jays choked that game away.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 f*** the Mariners and the Yankees
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Anybody feel bad for the Yankees? Hell no
BlueJays Verified Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 What a night. Dodgers, Yankees and f***ing Mariners lost. I'm hoping the Yankees lose their series as well.

It would be unfair to pick on just Grant for this. They played Houston tough, 3 1-run games. 4th Starter Kirby is a rookie who saved the key game against the Jays, then pitched 7 scoreless yesterday. Throws 98 with freakish control. I don't think a team like that is dogshit. They play in a pitchers park in a pitchers year and had some bad luck with batting averages which started this stupid narrative. Julio Rodriquez for christ sake is as good a minor league hitter as Vlad, had a better rookie season, is worth like 3 WAR more on baserunning and defense alone. I mean f*** who Julio and Vlad both hit as they can Vlad will still be only 6 WAR and Julio 9. What is with taking every Seattle player and evaluating them totally wrong? Just cuz Raleigh (who may actually be more like a .270 hitter) hit .211? Blue Jays Message Board - we love batting average. We love old skiool!. Yo Bro team with Kirby as a 4th starter sucks... who is Kirby again?

You can actually use the excuses such as "bad luck" or "randomness" in terms of their losses. When the Blue Jays lost Game 2 to the Mariners, those were the terms being thrown around by some posters. But since the Mariners got swept by the Astros, their team was "dog s***."

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Not true, it was blamed on a combination of randomness and bad moves by Schneider. A combination of bad moves made by Schneider, some bad luck on the bloopers and several players/pitchers not executing. At the end of the day, you shouldn't blow an 8-1 lead and there should be no excuses. The only guy I heard stepping up and taking some responsibility was Romano for some of his pitches. Otherwise, Schneider and some other players kind of just passed it off and avoided owning up to their mistakes.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Not true, it was blamed on a combination of randomness and bad moves by Schneider. How many runners were on base and ended up scoring on the bloop hit? Heard the bad luck bloop hit a thousand times. There were three fnnnn runners on base in the first place.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Ok just watching the replays/condensed games between the Yanks/Cleveland since I missed them… A LOT of luck going Cleveland’s way honestly. So many bloop hits, balls just out of reach for NY defenders, errors by NY, balls just fair down the foul line… I would be so pissed as a Yankees fan. That 10th inning in game 2 was brutal, should have been 0 runs for Cleveland there.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Author Posted October 16, 2022 "don't strike out. Put the ball in play and good things can happen" With excellent pitching, that's their schtick and it works.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 9 runs were scored against us after it was 8-1. Saying that those runs were, “luck”, the “manager”, or “circumstance”, fails to account for all the runners on base when the three proceeding things occurred if you believe in that.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 No idea how anyone can say the Mariners are dog s***? Is that a question or a statement?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Is that a question or a statement? A statement questioning the supposition.

I still don't see a point. Are you taking a micro view of things? From a macro view, the Jays are a better team than the Mariners. They lost the series due to randomness and Schneider mistakes. Upsets in baseball, and there have been a lot of them this year, are mainly due to short series volatility / statistical noise.

Jays are certainly the better team, they just simply blew up at the wrong time, it'd be disingenuous to say otherwise. Also, the M's don't stink, they'll be a force for a while.

If they Jays lost a bunch of close games to the Mariners, then you can use the excuse of randomness. They were winning 8-1 in Game 2 and blew it. The team just didn't execute on top with Schneider's mistakes.

Take away one or the other, the Jays win. It's silly to say the Jays didn't execute. Are you saying they didn't give 100%?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Author Posted October 16, 2022 Wrong. How on earth can you say that's wrong? I guess in a vacuum there's some noise in there, but the pen simply didn't execute.

Stop coming up with excuses for this team. Why did the Dodgers lose? They didn't execute? Why did the Braves lose? They didn't execute? Why did the Mets lose? They didn't execute? It's just baseball, man, there is relative parity between post season teams and it basically comes down to liners hit right at an OF or into the gap, a fly ball or a bloop, a groundball through the hole, missed call by the umpire, etc. And I'm not going to make any conclusions regarding the Jays based on the game 2 loss, which is ONE f***ing game.

You're such an apologist when it comes to this team. Blue Jays lost their series against the Mariners because they played awful baseball and had a manager who was overthinking his bullpen with an 8-1 lead. Plain and simple. They shouldn't get a Participation ribbon! I never asked you to make any conclusions regarding the Jays based on the Game 2 loss. Obviously some of the weaknesses of this team were exploited in that game, weaknesses myself and some other posters on here pointed out this team had. Lets hope the front office addresses those weaknesses better this offseason or else 2023 will be like 2022 or 2021 all over again.
