GDT: 3/3 Baltimore Orioles @ Toronto Blue Jays (1:37 et)

Also f*** the Orioles for somehow salvaging Felix Bautista

Can he keep this up???

Possibly... as long as his velo is up. His fastball is pretty straight but pumping it in 100+ with secondary stuff in the low/mid 80's is filthy.

Kenley Jansen has 7 blown saves

Rays have the most blown saves with 29

Braves have 26

Orioles have the fewest with 11

Jays middle of the pack with 21

Yankees have 18

Not exactly what you were asking but it's interesting and relevant

Yeah it'd be interesting to see. Not all save opps are the same. I watched a Braves game the other day and they mentioned how horrible Jansen is in 1-run save opps but with 2 or 3 run leads he's been money. There's a huge difference between a 1-run save with the Yankees middle of the order coming up vs a 3-run lead against the Nats bottom of the order.

Romano is 34/39 in Save Opportunities but it seems like a lot of them have been high pressure 1 run games. Would love to see how he compares to other closers in really close games.

For converted saves %, Romano ranks 10th best; filtering to teams who currently possess a postseason spot, however, he is 5th best.

If you deep-dive though, Romano currently holds the most shutdown appearances as a closer.

As a % of his save opportunities, he is 4th best and the only other playoff contender that is ahead of him is the combo of Fairbanks/Adam (TBR) by a very slim margin.

Other thoughts:

Actually crazy how bad Kimbrel is. Clay Holmes has fallen off quite hard. Duran > Pagan/Lopez - yet Twins insist on using Duran as a setup man. Helsley is insane but he also isn't always on (he has 4 blown saves). Bard is kind of elite. Bautista is also pretty elite - despite his control issues, he only has one blown save and only one non-shutdown appearance as a closer (yesterday's was close, but I think the two Ks kept him just afloat). Camilo Doval & Gregory Soto are bonkers.
