Cue the excitement when we draft a highly ranked high schooler early on when in reality it'll just be insurance in case something prevents a Toman signing and we end up with leftover money.

Rd 12 (368) - Nolan Perry - RHP - High School. - 6'2" 195

Could be the first hard sign. Texas Tech commit.

"The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Perry has command of four pitches, velocity that sits consistently in the 92-93 range (topping out around 95) and, by all accounts, is possessed of an unflappable demeanor.

"He just goes about his business," said Carlsbad coach Cody May. "He's definitely a competitor, but he shows zero emotion, whether things are going well or not going well. It's hard to explain unless you're around the kid."

Added Tim Perry, Nolan's father, "It's one of his best qualities."

No fewer than 14 teams in MLB, including the Yankees, San Diego, Oakland, Arizona, Seattle, Toronto, Atlanta, Baltimore, Kansas City, Detroit, Milwaukee, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, are charting Perry closely."

Rd 18 (548) - Jeremy Pilon - LHP - High School- 6'0" 185 (Canada)

Doesn't turn 17 until September.

"Jeremy Pilon (Salaberry-De-Valleyfield, Que.) turned in an impressive outing in his team’s thorough win as he tossed five and two-thirds one-hit innings while striking out eight and only walking a pair. The freshman lefthander stands at an athletic 5-foot-11, 173-pounds and he makes the most of it as he worked up to 88 mph from the left side, showing mostly mid-80s through his outing and proving he could work to both halves of the plate. It’s a slightly deceptive release as he hides it well in the back and works with excellent arm speed through an over-the-top release that allows him to get downhill to the bottom half of the zone. While the fastball is a good one, the breaking ball flashed just as good as he spins it hard and gets a ton of depth to it from the same mimicked release allowing him to sequence those pitches and keep hitters off-time and struggling to get on the barrel against him."

He was draft eligible at 16 ? hows that work?

according to MLB draft rules, he has to have graduated high school already and be 17 within 45 days of the draft.

So yeah, thta's the quebec loophole I guess. As long as he's 17 before September 2

He turns 17 on Sept 11th. Maybe it's 45 from the signing deadline?

Did the Jays forfeit their 20th round pick? Looks like they skip from pick 607 to 609 in the Draft Tracker.

Edit: Guess not. Was a glitch in their tracker.

Rd 20 (608) - Gregory Pace Jr. - OF - High School- 6'2" 187

"Pace is one of the fastest players in the Draft, but most scouts think his bat isn't ready for pro ball. He ran a 6.21-second 60-yard dash and showed some raw right-handed power in batting practice at the East Coast Pro showcase last summer, but his uphill swing doesn't produce a lot of results in game action. He'd be best off refining his hitting skills and center-field instincts at Michigan rather than signing now."
