He does not lack confidence. Dudes throwing live games showing his full chest. If he throws strikes and has success the Jays will push through the system that is true.

Kasevich, the guy we got has the highest future hit tool on the fangraphs board and apparently could stick at short. Interesting pick.

They have him as the only potential 70 hit tool in the class but see him at third, not short.

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 40 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 50

The University of Oregon has produced some solid offensive talent in recent years, with outfielder Aaron Zavala going in the second round in 2021 and infielder Spencer Steer being selected in Round 3 in 2019. It’s Steer who comes up the most when talking about Kasevich, a talented shortstop for the Ducks who came off a very successful summer as one of the best hitters in the wood bat Northwoods League and continued to show outstanding bat-to-ball skills this spring.

Kasevich has the chance to be a solid hitter from the right side of the plate at the next level. He has outstanding plate discipline and makes a ton of contact, walking nearly as much as he struck out at Oregon in 2021 and more than he struck out during his time in the Northwoods League. He uses all fields well and while he’s definitely hit over power, there is the chance he could grow into a little more pop in the future.

While he’s just an average runner, Kasevich has every chance to stick at shortstop and is considered perhaps the best defender in the Pacific Northwest. His arm is above-average and very accurate and he has excellent hands and footwork to go along with it. All of his skills play up because of his instincts and if his bat continues to come along, he could go in the top three rounds just like Steer did a few years ago.

TL;DR Good D SS who has a good eye/discipline.

This was written about a year ago on prospectslive.com

"At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Kasevich is a strong, athletic infielder with a quick bat. In 55 games for the Ducks this season, he slashed .324/.397/.444 with four homers. More importantly, Kasevish posted a 9.5 percent K-rate and a similar walk rate. His 87 percent contact rate is elite. The Palo Alto, Calif. native is playing in the Northwoods League this summer where he’s terrorized the opposition slashing .374/.407/.450.

As previously mentioned, there’s big bat speed here, clocking a peak exit velocity of 113 mph this year, another 99th percentile, elite measure. But Kasevich tends to really let the ball travel deep in the zone, employing an inside-out swing at times, limiting his ability to get to his plus raw power. The bat path is built for line drives too, again muzzling his ability to hit for power in-game. The entire profile and bat/swing trajectory is reminiscent of Jordan Westburg from 2020. Like Westburg, scouts are split on whether Kasevich will eventually move to third base where his fringe-average speed and plus arm may fit better, but optimists see a guy with good lateral explosiveness with the instincts and hands to handle the 6-hole long-term."

Wonder how much has changed, but still some interesting insight there

If that fangraphs report on Kasevich is real, (they had him 36th overall) that’s honestly a massive steal. All he’d need to do is find one more grade or half grade of power and he would be a really good player.

It’s interesting that reports on him are so different.

Field and arm grades look solid and risk is low. My amateur opinion is I like this pick.

I’m not worried about Jones. The rays never seem to make the athletes into great players. They get hitters and get them more power. Maybe I’m forgetting someone.

Kasevich looks like Groshans.

Hut, but power at all

Groshans doesn’t have a 70 hit tool. I mean fangraphs are probably wrong about that but that’s a special hit tool.

If you read their next tweet it says Toman's dad were telling people he got a good deal from the Jays. Probably 100% BS or they had a comp round deal.
