Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Name Position MTV ($Ms) Abrams SS 47.1 Gore SP 29.6 Hassell OF 38.7 Hosmer 1B -35.2 Susana RHP 2.5 Wood 1B 25.6 Total Value: 108.30 Name Position MTV ($Ms) Martinez SS 13.9 Moreno C 68.7 Pearson SP 3.3 Tiedemann LHP 22.9 Total Value: 108.80 I would do that trade without hesitation and then trade Gurriel or Teo for pitching help. CF Springer RF Soto 1B Vladdy C Kirk SS Bo DH Bell LF Gurriel/Teo 3B Chapman 2B Espinal/Biggio Are you kidding me? We'd have a stacked and more balanced lineup!!
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer may be terrible now, but's it kinda s***** that they put him in this position. Perhaps make sure he's going to say yes before letting it all out. I hope he screws them just for the giggles. Hosmer deserves s*****. For the 2015 ALCS and that egregious contract he got. He has already screwed SDP - or more aptly they screwed themselves in making that deal.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I basically agree with this. With some tweaks the Jays could have matched the Padres offer but there is one major roadblock that prevented it and that’s the fact that our main trade chip in Moreno is probably the only position that the shitbag Nats don’t need. Nationals wanted one or two MLB talent with control. That's why they are getting Gore & Abrams which the Padres didn't want to include early on (but now they are to seal the deal) Also why Cardinals went out of the race because they don't want to include Carlson. Nats wouldn't do it if we didn't include Manoah or Kirk, and Kirk is in the same position as Moreno (blocked by Ruiz).
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Nah, Padres supporting cast is way better. Padres SP are miles better than any rotation the Angels have had. This year yes - but it will be interesting to see where they are 2-4 years from now. They now own the worst farm system in baseball.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Are the Padres going to become the Angels? Stars and scrubs? Trout, Ohtani, Rendon v. Tatis, Soto, Machado Josh Bell??

I mean if you can get Moreno you trade Ruiz. I think Toronto just is not in a position to do this type of trade. Prob not willing to go this far. Also, sounds like Hosmer contract was being mostly retained so you can even add another $30M of prospect value to the above example.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Why even put him in the deal then? Just cut him. I guess on a zero dollar contract effectively, he’s an asset they can trade later.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 With Hosmer's last 3 years being covered he's probably more like a $0 instead of a -35.2 Yeah - if SD is paying Hosmer, then I'd agree with this. Jays would need to add $35M in value to match.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer rejected the trade lmao
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Wholly f*** that is hilarious if true
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Deal's done with or without Hosmer Hosmer prolly gonna be flipped to a team for relief.

They now own the worst farm system in baseball. Yes, but that is enough time to turn the farm around. Susana and Wood have been with the Padres for about a year. Hassell, 2 years.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Rodon to Yanks shut the f*** up
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer rejected the trade lmao I realize he has the right, but I feel like if I had spent the last 5 years being paid tons of money and not delivering anything in return, I'd feel a sense of obligation to accept a trade to MLB Siberia.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Yes on prospects but I was expecting a major league piece would have been sent to the Nats that we would have ached over (Kirk or Espinal) but never happened. Do you think that Kirk and Espinal are in the same tier? Nobody here would have ached even a tiny bit over Espinal being moved in a deal for Soto...

Sir he would get to play with Victor Robles and Carter Kieboom and once a year Stephen Strasburg.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Maybe the calculation for Hosmer is A: accept trade, have to play for Washington for 3 years B: reject trade, probably get cut, get to choose where to sign (if anyone wants him)
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Just checked and it's hilarious that Hosmer has a higher OPS than Bo this year lol.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer might want to consider a witness protection program The deal must get done whether he's in it or not. SD was just trying to stay under the luxury tax this year (Washington was paying Hosmer this year, SD for the remaining years). I'm sure the Owner will just say f*** it, I'll pay the luxury tax.

Pearson is basically a nothingburger right now and Martinez, while he has "value", is going to be perceived all over the place because his underlying metrics are pretty horrific. So now you're essentially talking about Moreno and Tiedemann? A guy like James Wood makes this deal, because he has legitimate freakshow type upside. I don't perceive those packages to be equal at all.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Please tell me our biggest move this season isn't going to be the 300M renovation to the dome lol
