It's been slow on the minor league signings, but that's a really nice one to start with!

this is the definition of the type of player we need to sign to a spring invite. Hopefully he finds his way.

I think we'll see more minor league signings closer to ST, since I'm sure some players and arms are hoping to land guaranteed contracts given the way the market has been. If they don't, you'll see a bunch of those guys signing MiLB deals.

He's got some serious gas! If they can help him tame his wildness he can be a gem. These are the signings that have the potential to put a bullpen over the top.

Imagine a world where Julian Fernandez figures his s*** out, Nate Pearson stays healthy and Julian Merryweather pre-sticky stuff ban resurfaces...

Along with Romano that would be one hell of a flame throwing, bat missing, back end of a bullpen.

Hope luck is on the Jays side this season for the bullpen. We need one or two of these arms to have a significant impact.

As long as he is willing to do whatever is necessary and be a team player to get his stuff under control, it should be a great signing.

I'm going to hold out 0.1% hope that we somehow land Correa on a short term deal. He is exactly the type of player that would solidify our team. Look at how adding a guy like him makes our team near perfect on paper.

CF Springer

2B Bo

1B Vlad

DH Kirk

SS Correa

LF Varsho

3B Chapman

C Jansen

We need a 5th SP and an additional high K low BB guy in the pen before we need CC IMO.

Not many bullpen arms left other than some lottery tickets like Chapman, Britton, Green etc. Maybe Chafin and Moore are the only two, but meh.

Between Pearson, Zulu, and the Julian's, I think there's a chance for at least 1 high leverage RP to emerge from that group in 2023. I don't know why I am bullish on Pearson since he's given me no reason to be, but him in a 1 inning role just seems like something that is going to work out if he stays healthy (which is the caveat with him). I think if Merryweather pans out it will probably be somewhere else. Fernandez is a nice MiLB signing whether he works out or not. If you can get that type of high reward talent on a MiLB deal then good work. You can't teach 100 mph. If you can fix whatever his issues are, then you might have something. If not, then no big loss.

If even one of those 3 happen we’ll have a excellent bullpen.

Anybody else feel like the Jays bullpen is teetering on the edge of becoming possibly elite?

Looking at FG roster projections, the Jays are at a point where they have enough quality BP arms where guys like Pop, Pearson and Merryweather might not even start on the MLB roster.

Now they add another hard throwing project like Julian Fernandez into the mix.

Then you have high end prospects like Tiedemann and Zulueta, who I realize are starters, but could easily start their MLB careers in the bullpen before transitioning back to starters, especially with how strong the Jays rotation looks ATM.

Not to mention reliever prospects like Adrian Hernandez, Hayden Jeunger and Hagen Danner who are all right there at the AA/AAA levels and looking good.

Seems like they've come a long ways from the days where they had to give damn near 150 innings combined to waiver wire fodder like Thornton, Payamps, Saucedo and Castro.

Also, anyone know what happened to that 6'9 reliever we had in AAA who was reportedly hitting triple digits?

Fitz Stadler. He didn't pitch an inning anywhere last season. I assume he must have underwent TJS

Maybe he'll be back this year and have better control. Walks were an issue with that guy for sure.

Spent 2022 on the Buffalo DL and reactivated in November.

He was on the 60 day, so he suffered a serious injury for sure. He had to be activated until ST.

We have one (1) proven closer on the roster so far. Swanson was a great add, but has not proven he can close yet, I hope be can. Def better than the start of 2022 IMO with Swanson, Pop and Bass on board. Just worried if Romano goes down the trickle down affect. I want a pen to have at least two no doubt closer types, a la Houston, Yankees, Seattle, Indians, Baltimore even had two, and more.

This is a better take than people will give you credit for

It’s how these things work. You accumulate quality depth and good things happen. Maybe some guys will come “out of nowhere” and be elite relievers for Toronto. But they won’t really be out of nowhere.

Gotta say that I'm impressed with what Atkins has done so far this offseason. Didn't think he had the balls

to put an end to the party boy culture. Removed the cancer and added a 4.6 WAR lefty bat. And most importantly didn't move Kirk.

Now go get Reynolds and make Keermyer the 4th outfielder!

Happy new year!

I hope the team has even more fun on the bench next year, especially when they're losing.
