No longer a tough guy. I’ve only been in one fight since turning 60 a couple of years ago. (Basically I had just gotten another divorce and the guy had it coming when he started mouthing off to my friend Spanky who posts here.)

Bit I do know something about managing a team. We won 8 darts championships in the mid 90s at my local bar. Anytime someone was throwing them like s*** all I would have to do is get in their face a little bit. If that didn’t work I’d get someone new to join the team. Pretty simple really.

We live in mostly different times now. I have no problem with a manager having it out with a player behind closed doors but like punching a guy in the face because he’s not playing well is not really a thing.

I just realized that Montoyo was re-signed on April fools day.

Are we sure that Shatkins aren't here to troll Canada?

For a bit more clarity...lol

He lost me at the first line bro. Losing 6/7 is more than luck....and what something like 10-11?? Just bad timing on his quote. Of course he is under a giant microscope because we suck lately.

If Charlie said the team played well on this road trip, he should be fired for insulting everyone's intelligence.

Just getting back from Seattle and never been so upset to be a fan of this team. Saturday's game was a lot more disappointing then Sundays as there were a lot of wasted opportunities.

Sunday seemed like a foregone conclusion, body language of several players you could tell they just didn't want to be there. Vlad especially seemed like a toddler with a full diaper on the verge of a tantrum. Never even bothered to turn around when glove busted through his kit and slow-walked his way to the dugout to get a replacement.

Teams and fans see need relieved when Santana hit the go ahead homer in the 8th...happy to be put out of our misery.

No fight in this team at all on this road trip and someone needs to be accountable for that.

That's sad to see as Seattle is a massive stage for the Jays to play for their west coast fans. How can you not play hard when you have that many fans in the seats at an away game?

Did you rip their dart league shirt off when you kicked them off the team? I had to do that once with my bowling team. Those shirts are thick so I was pulling on it for a while before the buttons broke off.

Apparently the team is going to the funeral today, for Julia. I openly wonder how this had an affect on the players, it's pretty damn tragic and these guys' are human. 1-9 since this tragedy. Lot's of bad sequence luck on this streak as well(timely hits). I understand what Charlie meant, but as they say there's no crying in baseball.

On that note, Charlie was growing on me there for awhile when he was sticking up for his players and getting tossed, we need more of that out of him, and some accountability for bonehead mistakes, players WILL take notice and be better prepared, I legit miss the legend John Gibbons, he wouldn't allow it.

Man, most young athletes are self absorbed and couldn't care less about anything other than themselves and their performance. I'm sure they were sad but I hardly doubt they were all heartbroken and knocked off their feet because the first base coaches daughter died. I don't mean to sound crass, but I see this brought up all the time as a possibility and I just don't see it.

It doesn’t have to be one extreme or another. A great coach is a guy who respects you as a player and a person and is easy to get along with. But when you deserve to get mother f***ed if you will he doesn’t hesitate to do it.

I doubt the players truly respect Charlie. The inmates are running the asylum right now. It’s all fine and dandy when you’re winning, but when the going gets tough and there isn’t a true leader to lead things fall apart quickly.

Exactly. Gibby was a laid back and happy guy but if a player did something obnoxious he wouldn't hold back from barking "What the f*** was that?!". These players are all men. They're not gonna crumble for getting called out when they play the game like an idiot.

Dammit I had forgotten just how good they were last year. f***ing moron Charlie and a couple terrible bullpen arms (Dolis/Chatwood/Hand/Borucki) cost us a playoff spot.

Jays were rolling at the end of the season too. Could have done damage in the playoffs.

Ugh

Yep. Will go to my grave regretting we didn't invest more in the pen and impact LH bat with that team. Cheap stellar seasons from Semien, Ray and Matz and a break through from Manoah. Elite Bo and Vlad seasons and overall great health compared to say Atlanta who won the whole thing. And we were hot in September going into playoffs. It's ironic that so far in 22 by almost every metric this team is not doing as well.

Was such an enjoyable season. Berrios was pitching like an ace, and saved his best for September. Ray, Manoah, and Berrios, backed by that offence could have gone to the WS. If my waning memory serves me correctly, Jays needed Tampa to beat NY for 1 game tiebreaker? I would have liked our chances! Damn TB.

They needed NYY or BOS to lose the last game to end up in a play-in game.

Yankees won 1-0 on a walk off, I think.

Boston came back from down 5-1 against WSH. Nats bullpen blew it.

Berrios was excellent for us last year. Robbie Ray CY Young. 2 MVP candidates that placed 2nd and 3rd in voting. ROY contender in Manoah. Top offense in baseball with a +180 run differential. Winning record against both Boston and NY.

Still missed the playoffs. Pretty unreal when you stop and think about it.

Brad Hand. Elite before coming over, elite after leaving, f***ed us so hard when he was with us - unreal.

He actually wasn’t elite before the trade, I remember everyone noticing his FIP/xFIP was awful and he was getting extremely lucky. And I don’t think any of us liked the trade when it was announced.

But he seems to be pitching better this year

True wasn't elite - but he had 3.59 ERA/4.34 FIP/1.1 WHIP in 42 IP with Nationals

Came over: 7.27 ERA/7.55 FIP/1.85 WHIP

Left to Mets: 2.70 ERA/3.40 FIP/1.28 WHIP

like ???

Did he not want to be traded or hated us or something?

How much of game calling is on Moreno btw?

It was weird that he kept calling slider for Mayza (leading to two wild pitches - ultimately scoring the run) even when Mayza didn't have a feel for it and was being erratic.

When he started, the pen was 4.82 ERA, 4.55 FIP, -1.0 WAR over 74.2 IP

He avoided the likes of Merryweather, Vasquez, Borucki, Saucedo and Richards bloating these numbers

I didn't do starters 'cause Kikuchi :P

He did start in June however and maybe the pen was already exhausted/overworked/fatigued/w.e

When he didn't start (collection of Jansen/Kirk/Collins/Heineman): 3.59 ERA, 3.93 FIP, 1.6 WAR over 258 IP

Over the month of June 11 - July 11 (Moreno's first game was 11th), with Kirk starting, the pen was: 4.32 ERA, 4.28 FIP, 0.9 WAR over 57 IP

Yeah, he shouldn't of said it, 'twas lame, to say the least.

SSS I guess, but his struggles also coincided with the sticky stuff crackdown so maybe that was it. And he learned to pitch without it after a couple months

I’ve been thinking about this too. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the team go on a big run when Jansen comes back. He seems to be much better with the game calling aspect of catching, and it makes sense considering the other 2 are very new/young/less experienced.

Moreno just got optioned to AAA to make room for Jansen.

Lowkey think Moreno might be a trade asset at this point - he needs a lot of regular playing time up here to develop (not only offense, but defense)

And I am not sure we can afford that if we are going for a playoff run, not with the depth of Jansen/Kirk (assuming Jansen doesn't get hurt again)

Yeah okay man, you seemed to miss the rest of my post as well. If you watched the games, than you'd know they were hitting, but it was bad sequencing luck and plenty of mental errors. s*** happens and they need to pull up their big boy pants, to say a tragedy wouldn't get in the players heads is being short sighted in my opinion, it's a human element.
