Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 I see the bad with the FO, but I am focusing on the good and the potential great that I see from the development in our minors, especially stories like Tiedemann and Frasso. Generates some hope and its not all doom and gloom, which is the better, sane recipe for non-bandwagon fandom. There is no point in bashing the FO every time the coaches/players that are playing the game are doing badly - Romano, Richards, Bo, Berrios, Kikuchi - or getting injured - Ryu, Merryweather, Pearson etc.

This team is damn good, not clicking in pitching at the moment, yet that can change. I'm sad the Jays hadn't enough depth, but it is what it is, we'll see what they do on that front running up to the deadline. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Its actually pretty sick that the only thing separating us from being Yankee/Astros level is a lack of pitching. IMO easier to develop pitching these days than developing hitting. I think we are seeing our MILB side get better at developing pitching so future is extremely bright.

Which they deserve. There is also criticism, which they deserve. The criticism now is heightened because we are scuffling some. Most of the angst isn't directed at Charlie because mostly he is pushing what buttons he has to push right now ok. It's all good. Let's hope that the under performers get white hot and stay healthy the last 80 and we nail the first wildcard at a minimum. Every W/L matters but there is lots of time left.
Benito Verified Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Agree with both Solaxys and Spanky. That's my general position as well. I know the FO isn't perfect, and there is still work to be done, but I am excited with what they've built so far, and continue to build still. My personal nature is to try to focus more on the positive than the negative. I think also, some of the criticism (which is fine to have), is partly the benefit of hindsight. Coming into the season, and based on the success from last year, we all knew the offence was the strength of the team. But I don't think it was an unfair opinion to have had optimism for the pitching as well. Berrios was excellent for us last year, and was very good overall for the season. Having Berrios, Manoah for a whole season, with Gausman added, gave the Jays 3 top of the rotation starters. The bullpen as well, Romano was great last year. Cimber, Mayza, Richards were all very reliable as well. That's 7 great to very good pitchers to pair with an elite offence. There's a reason many had the team as WS contenders. Not just media or Vegas, but rival fanbases as well. Reading our divisional rival fanbase forums preseason, consensus was pretty much Jays were one of the elite teams in the division, and a real threat to beat. Team got off to a great start but has since have had ups and downs, while showing flashes of the team many expected pre-season (8 game winning streak). Unfortunately, the team has been overall under performing expectations, especially the pitching as we are all painfully aware. But I still have optimism that the talent is still there to make the playoffs and go deep in the post-season. Call that vague or me being a homer, that's fine, but I'm still enjoying the season (if not as much as I had hoped). Jays are in a playoff fight in a very competitive division, and have some of the most exciting young players for me to watch and follow. Add some very exciting development down in the farm with pitching, and yeah, I'm good.

Yeah, they're not free of criticism, and it's warranted, mainly the pen's depth, I believe Chuckle's is a dolt, but the pen with these injuries aren't on him. They needed at least one more arm for the pen, and it's showing its teeth. Lets see how they strengthen this apparent hole come deadline day, I expect regression to the mean in this 2nd half that I and most pundits expected. I don't think we go after another bat, Biggio's closed that hole. We'll certainly see arms coming in to help bulk us up, unless something else goes drastically wrong. Jays Got Dis'...

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 I hope nobody from the board was at the game last night, and if they were, they're safe...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 I hope nobody from the board was at the game last night, and if they were, they're safe... Damn, America's nuts. Lots of sad news on the 4th, it pains me.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Mild sexism and racism about Kim Ng. 24 hours timeout. Haha... connorpee sent me an offer last night for Altuve with no players coming my way... he basically wanted me to send you a message, I'll let him say it.
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 That's one of the bazillion reasons they want out of there, rough neighbourhood. I remember going to Wrigley. Same type of thing, rough and tumble and the park stands out like a sore thumb. Anyways, I wonder what a package of Bednar/Quintana would cost from the Pirates. I'd imagine an A prospect +.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Vladdy day off is cool and all, but would love to see Biggio in the 2nd spot. 422 OBP not table-setting for Kirk is a crime.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 News on Yimi... Yimi García (back) struck out a pair of batters in a scoreless inning on Monday in his minor league rehab assignment debut for Triple-A Buffalo. Advice: García looked extremely sharp in this one, needing just eight pitches to retire the side in order. He's progressing towards a lightning quick return from a left back strain that sent him to the injured list in late June. The 31-year-old right-hander appears poised to rejoin the Blue Jays' bullpen later this week, if not sooner.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Anyways, I wonder what a package of Bednar/Quintana would cost from the Pirates. I'd imagine an A prospect +. I don't think Bednar is going to be traded tbh (I might be wrong 'cause Pirates LOVE giving pitchers to AL East), but ya it's going to take someone in the top 100 + a mid-level arm at the least.

To be honest, you may be right. He doesn't seem like a pitcher that teams would make available but yes, Pirates.

Anyways, I wonder what a package of Bednar/Quintana would cost from the Pirates. I'd imagine an A prospect +. It'd be expensive, don't see that happening. Pirates FO isn't what people think anymore, it's been rehauled. The ownership is the problem. Quintana shouldn't be expensive, I don't think.
NY_Mountie Verified Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 To be honest, you may be right. He doesn't seem like a pitcher that teams would make available but yes, Pirates. But with relievers being so erratic from year-to-year, if the Pirates think they can get good value for Bednar - I think they do it.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Gausman's side session today was no bueno, man. He didn't get on the mound, just threw flat ground.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Arden Zwelling just mentioned that Kooch brought his cutter back last outing? Hadn't realized, I guess to find the zone, but that pitch gets rocked.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 He's going to miss a start is what it's looking like. Can they even afford to have him hanging around on the 26 man and try to manage a spot start somehow with short roster? And there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready for his next time through the rotation

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Yes, thay can absolutely afford it. I mean I guess we’ll see how it goes, hopefully Gausman only needs to miss 1 start
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 I mean I guess we’ll see how it goes, hopefully Gausman only needs to miss 1 start Most likely, it's a deep bruise, he should be okay, putting him on the IL is no bueno man. That's 3 starts, including the game we lost him on Saturday, they can certainly wait.
