Don't forget that the Jays were near the bottom in offensive stats vs RHP relievers in later innings. Maybe that was due to inexperience or maybe just too many righty hitters in the lineup.

 

Well the simple solution to that (as well as any bullpen fears) is to just be up 10-0 in every game by the 5th inning

The fact that McGuire has been so GOOD - not bad enough where this team felt the need to go through hoops and leave guys exposed to the thankfully non-existent Rule 5 draft - is a blessing, not a curse. This forum has seen Jays teams where McGuire would have been the BEST option at catcher.

 

Let's not make inappropriate trades just to see McGuire or Grishuk off the team. Having them plug up the final two roster spots aren't real problems.

Or, between now and July, one or more of these prospects destroy the minors and rocket up the prospect list. In other words, there are two aspects, (1) the need for an upgrade, (2) the timing of the transaction. You want to optimize both.

 

The asking price presumably also goes down the longer Cleveland waits...it may be worth it just hoping Bird is something and see what happens. Although having all the bullets to start the season would be nice.
