Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I haven't posted all offseason so had no clue there were any restrictions on stuff like this but based on seeing the deleted posts, I guess I know now. Nothing that can be construed as "political", including but not limited to thoughts on vaccines, mandates, or covid in general. No need for that on a baseball forum. This topic specifically relates to how it will impact baseball, and anything that's not specifically related to baseball is going to be deleted (whether or not I agree with the position). Politics and this forum have a dicey history and we made the decision to eliminate it (as best we can) rather than let it spiral out of control again.

Nothing good ever comes from discussing either.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2022 Author Posted March 13, 2022 It sounds like Buck Martinez got the jab. I never thought about non players, but I'd be surprised if some TV guys didn't have the jab. The same goes for managers. Joe Girardi seemed a bit elusive when asked and Alex Cora, being the biggest piece of s*** scumbag in the league, is another likely candidate.

Players from the Jays can not travel to the US without proof of vaccination. It goes both ways and we can not sign anyone unvaccinated. It could be the reason we opted for Gausman over Ray. I'm pretty sure the rules were implemented in January, but they may known it was coming. I'm pretty sure Sale isn't vaccinated either. I don't really care. I'll take any advantage I can get. I hope Ramirez is vaccinated!

I'd expect there could be a few guys from Latin American countries that won't be able to get into either country.

Why would someone who you think is a POS be a likely candidate to not have the vax? It’s really not difficult to see how this thread goes off the rails

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 The players should have a choice to get vaccinated or not but I also enjoy they are banned from playing at the Skydome for choosing not to get vaccinated!
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Is it Canadian law or something that you can't travel to the country with out both doses? Seems so weird to hear this and at the same time Ontario is scrapping all covid precautions like masks and vaccine passports.

Most countries require non-citizens to be vaccinated in order to cross the border. Including the United States.

They do have a choice Having said that, the guard didn’t ask when we crossed 10 days ago. Messaging from Lido Beach
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 They do have a choice Having said that, the guard didn’t ask when we crossed 10 days ago. Messaging from Lido Beach My experience with border guards is that they will do whatever the f*** they feel like doing whenever the f*** they feel like doing it. There doesn't appear to be ANY oversight on those guys.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 They have certain must dos. And it wouldn’t surprise me if the guard had our vax status in the system That is also likely. IIRC recently some dude trying to run from the cops and cross the Canadian boarder got nabbed because he wasn't vaxxed and he was detained for that... A quick duckduckgoing (I'm trying to get away from Google a bit) doesn't find anything on that, but since I can't remember the guys name or what he was wanted for my search was overbroad.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 I see my post got deleted lol. I thought we were past all this. Guess not. Atleast alternative options are available now.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 I wonder if there will be a compromise before the season starts. Something similar to last year where if you weren't vaccinated, you were stuck in the hotel or at the ballpark.

Something similar to last year where if you weren't vaccinated, you were stuck in the hotel or at the ballpark. You have to figure that would have been brought up in the CBA negotiations and they couldn't come to an agreement. The Prime Minister called a National Emergency because he was unwilling to engage in a discussion about cross border mandates, so I doubt MLB will make much progress. Flip flops are a bad look in politics. The US Government also plays a role in this as well because the mandates go both ways.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Yeah, there have been a few warnings in this thread already. Ah I see must have missed them. Wasn’t attempting to stir anything up. Just saw my post was deleted and was really confused. I see now that its still a sensitive subject for some. All I know is I’m excited to go the games again!

I see now that its still a sensitive subject for some. All I know is I’m excited to go the games again! It's a very... delicate topic. OBVIOUSLY it's a valid baseball discussion that we should have, but it's super, super easy to go off the rails. Basically, I'm trying to err on the side of caution. There have been a few posts that I've left that I felt were RIGHT on the edge, and a couple that I've deleted that I felt were only slightly over the line. And I'm also trying to be even handed on both sides of the issue (this is an issue about which I feel strongly, so it hasn't been the easiest to be objective, but I'm trying...)
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 So would Rizzo not be allowed to play in NY? Ala Kylie Irving? Or is basketball different? Indoors I guess?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Author Posted March 15, 2022 So would Rizzo not be allowed to play in NY? Ala Kylie Irving? Or is basketball different? Indoors I guess? That's right. Unvaccinated players can outdoors in New York.

Flip flops are a bad look in politics. The US Government also plays a role in this as well because the mandates go both ways. Even if Canada had completely lax policies it wouldn't make a difference because of the U.S. policy. It would be a situation where you come on in to Toronto for a three game set then have to miss several games going back to the U.S. under quarantine. Not worth it except for very limited circumstances. For instance, it's mid-September and the team is neck and neck for a playoff spot against Toronto and the next couple of series are against scrub teams. So what I'm trying to say is that it pretty much doesn't matter what the Canadian government policy is.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 What Grant thinks will happen: Unvaccinated Red Sox can't bring key players to Toronto, and end up getting clobbered in TO, and Jays make the playoffs while Red Sox are out. What will really happen: Red Sox, a great organization, will address this reshuffle their roster a bit, sign a key vaccinated player and be a great team as ussual. Likely will make the playoffs easily while Toronto fights it out with Seattle for the last spot. I am no Red Sox fan, but they are a great, great organization, and we won't be beating them out because of a vaccination rule. Already talk they will be the ones to sign Freeman. Special Press Release: The Boston Red Sox have signed the vaccinated Freddie Freeman to a 6 year contract. He will in Toronto soon after all.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Bogaerts now says he is vaccinated
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Bogaerts now says he is vaccinated I have to think over the winter a significant percentage of the hold-outs got the shot. Does Canada still count one shot of J&J ?? It's a rough vaccine for some, and I can see why an athlete may not have wanted to get it mid-season.
jaysfaithful8 Verified Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 If I don’t get vaccinated, I don’t go into work and would get terminated from my job. C’est la vie. I protect myself and others with no real harm. Sorry if this part of my comment is too political. All that said, it is interesting to think about the advantage this gives you he jays with the amount of all stars that are unvaccinated. Does this give the jays an edge?
