wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 I mean we’re saying a pitcher today gives 100% max effort right? Well what if he ends up throwing 130-140 pitches? It’s rare but it happens. So did he not just give 100% max effort on 140 pitches? Lol. So why can’t we assume someone thought that was the norm 30 years ago and did it?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 That’s fair. Usually I’ll let it go. Jimcuck had come along and tossed some gas on it and I bit
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Glad to see Riley is up but I expect him to run into a wall the first week with my luck and find his way to the IL
Benito Verified Member Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 I that an animated Michael Bolton lul haha. I missed that. Good catch. That poor printer, or was it a shredder?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 Man, dude's made of glass, shame... Angels placed 3B Anthony Rendon on the 10-day injured list with right wrist inflammation. Advice: For now he's being stashed on the 10-day IL, but ultimately when the Angels need a spot on the 40-man roster, he'll be moved to the 60-day IL. Rendon will undergo season-ending surgery to repair his right wrist. The injury wasn't going to get worse by attempting to play through it, which the veteran third baseman attempted to do for as long as he could, but eventually they decided that undergoing the procedure now would make the most sense. He should be healthy and ready to go for spring training. (NBCSportsEDGE.com)
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 You trolling me Spanky? Holy f***, your BBDL team is a disaster. I'll be passing you in the standings soon.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 Holy f***, your BBDL team is a disaster. I'll be passing you in the standings soon. Meh. Much like real life, seeding doesn’t mean a ton. Just hope my non-“out for the year” guys are healthy when it matters
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 Speaking of that, Trevor Bauer situation should be interesting. If he plays this year, from a business perspective, you’d think the LAD will have to make a quick decision on releasing him to avoid the daily circus. I imagine they’ve been talking to teams to see if a trade is an option if he’s allowed to play. So I expect a quick resolution. Or so my thinking goes
Themitt Verified Member Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 Okay long time reader..the whole max effort thing. Can we not all agree it takes max effort to throw a 87 MPH slider 30 times a game or max pressure throwing a splitter to spin. Im sure a guy who throws 95 consistently can whip it another 4 5 MPH but his arm take more damage with offspeed snd thats why you limit your starter cause his arm gets torched tryna throw 3 off speed pitches 60% of the time.

I agree with this. With pitch design these guys are throwing to get max movement/ deception / tunnelling between different pitches. A lot of stress on those things in the arm. Things break if they are stretched too far, the whole idea is not to stretch so much that the 5 or 6 day recovery period isn't enough (and they get shelled, or worse, next game).

Did breaking pitches just get invented lol Good thing pitchers finally realized they should get max movement and deception on their pitches

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Jimmy Herget pitches like a T-Rex, lol.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Yanks sweep the Rays, getting 2 of 3 this weekend would be huge. I think we will. Yanks are just due for regression. They are solid but they aren't THIS good. A lot will depend on the bats approach against their tough pitching. Sounds like a plan... Plan is not working! Time for Plan B...or C.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 My eternal memory/nightmare of him is him scoring from 1B on a run scoring single by Hosmer to break an 8th inning tie in 2015. I think we had a shot at the plate if we throw there. Shame. Would have been Cecil time for Hosmer if we had him.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 And as if Mike Trout wasn’t already easily the best player of the last …century or so, he just became the first player to hit 4 game winning HRs in a series Not walkoffs of course since the series was in Seattle but the game winning runs scored on his HRs in 4 of the 5 games.
