Laika Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Say we beat the Yankees tonight, what incentive does Tampa have to play Yankees tough when they clinched best record in AL last night? Damn Astros Tampa might rest some regulars but it's not like any of the players are going to turn the switch off right before the playoffs and then try to turn it back on. They'll play hard
Scion Verified Member Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 My god the Mariners just f***ing own the A's How in the hell can the A's lose that many games in a row to that f***ing team? I can't think of a worse way to have your season end. If they win even half of those games they are comfortably in a WC spot.

They'll play hard I mean you cant even really rest the regulars. Its not like you got a battalion of guys to pick from anymore. Rosters are only 28 not 40 so for the most part its gonna be business as usual.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 I can't think of a worse way to have your season end. If they win even half of those games they are comfortably in a WC spot. And if the Jays record against Boston reflected the run differential, they would be comfortably in a WC spot. And if the Yankees played the Orioles like the Rays did, they would be challenging for first in the division. Every team has these what-ifs.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 You can still do some things with 28 guys. Picture this lineup Biggio Espinal Grichuk LG Kirk Dickerson Valera Dyson Reese
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 You can still do some things with 28 guys. Picture this lineup Biggio Espinal Grichuk LG Kirk Dickerson Valera Dyson Reese Although the Rays only went with 4 bench bats in comparison to the Jays 6, and their every offensive player in the current lineup has at least 260 PA's this year. I understand your point though. Also the Rays have 3 full days off before their game 1. There is no need to sit anyone.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 I cannot f***ing believe that one team swept all 7 games between Oakland and Seattle. Talk about a completely improbable worst case scenario nightmare coming true.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Yes, Rays bench blows our's away. Some guys will get rest, but they'll certainly be competing.

And then you might see some of their better relievers getting a break, which could really impact the games.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Oakland sucks ass They might be a in a WC position if they still had Semien
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 The Mariners look like geniuses for the deadline deals that got them roasted. Since the deadline: Graveman: 0.2 fWAR Chargois: -0.2 fWAR Montero: 0.1 fWAR Toro: 0.7 fWAR Anderson: 0.7 fWAR Smith: 0.5 fWAR Castillo: -0.2 fWAR It's like two whole wins, right there. I know they gave up a couple of prospects too but remember they got absolutely eviscerated by the media and their fans for trading Graveman.

He finally had a good game yesterday.

WPA or gtfo.. actually I’m busting balls but I looked at the leaderboard to see season stats and Marcus is only 51st.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 To go 92-70: Yankees - 2-2 Red Sox - 3-1 Jays - 4-0 Mariners - 3-0 Pretty decent chance that all four teams tie at 92-70 or 91-71. The biggest roadblock to this is tonight's Jays game. Next would be Seattle sweeping, they supposedly only have a 40-45% chance of winning each game against the Angels. A four way tie, Boston holds all tie-breakers. Jays hold over Yankees, Yankees hold over Mariners, Mariners hold over Jays. This is going to be a clusterf***.

It’s also possible that the astros lose 4 in a row and also finish with 92 wins, which would mean they would have to have a tie breaker with the Ms for the division before the 4 team wildcard tournament

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Well, its no longer in the Jays hands. Gotta sweep the Os and hope for a tie and game 163
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Jays have to sweep the O’s and then hope Boston and Seattle at best win 2/3. Still doable but not bloody likely especially with this version of Ryu starting one of the BAL games.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Well Boston looks even worse than us right now.... Mariners though
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Probable Pitchers Matz vs. ???bullpen game maybe??? Manoah vs. Means Ryu vs. Bruce Zimmerman Gonzales vs. Jose Suarez Flexen vs. Jhonathan Diaz Anderson vs. Reid Detmers Rodriguez vs. Josh Rogers ???? vs. Josiah Gray Sale vs. Corbin * Ohtani could pitch against Seattle but I am seeing these other names on the probable pitcher websites so maybe he won't be. ** Detmers I could see stealing a game from Seattle *** Unclear who is lining up for Boston in the middle of their series. Hard to see a tough game for Boston. Maybe Corbin will have a revival, or Gray will steal a game. **** Means is good but the Baltimore series will be more about the bats. I'm sure Baltimore will score a bit, Toronto needs to pound their pitching. sweep and hope to get lucky! the reasonable expectation is that every team will go 2-1

Connor Greene likely starts tomorrow against us, so basically a BP game as you mentioned.
