Nothing wrong with the number of playoff spots. What needs to happen is divisional realignment. Five teams per division is obviously too few. Go back to two divisions of eight per league (premised on expansion to 32 teams). Division winner and three wild cards. The bottom two face each other.

 

Of course, the league would probably do the opposite - 8 divisions of 4 - but hey, the Jays would likely get lumped in with Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago so that should be a cakewalk most years.
