Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 I wouldn't totally be upset either if we re signed Semien, but we'd have to overpay as we always have to in order for a big free agent to come here. I don't think he's worth what he'll get from an American team, let alone having to pay a premium for us to sign him. Semien is no way obligated to the franchise whatsoever. Okay, good talk.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Nothing like a little Spanky sunshine. We’ll get em next time boys f*** off, Achmed.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Author Posted September 1, 2021 Who gave Kirk the green light with a 3 -1 count?
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 This team just doesn't have it for this season. Hopefully with a good offseason, we're ready to take the next step.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Brutal loss, IW's post was this game in a nutshell.
TrueNorth Verified Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Cant beat the bottom feeders. Sad

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 This team just doesn't have it for this season. Hopefully with a good offseason, we're ready to take the next step. Yeah.. We need to upgrade from Gurriel/Grichuk by trading Gurriel and Pearson ++ for JRamirez and signing an outfielder like Castellanos or Marte.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 That was actually an infuriating game, wow.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Red Sox self destructing and we lose to the O’s with our own unique brand of f***ery and overall s***** play. Depressing. (Also punt Valera!!)
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Yeah.. We need to upgrade from Gurriel/Grichuk by trading Gurriel and Pearson ++ for JRamirez and signing an outfielder like Castellanos or Marte. You get at me unprovoked about Semien, then post this, lol. Keep being you, meat.

Depressing. (Also punt Valera!!) GF just said that without a doubt I have bitched more about Jays games this year than I have even in previous seasons. I really feel like the f***ery is through the roof this year, but I can't tell if it's the result of an otherwise good team being disappointing or if the f***ery is actually higher this season. (I still feel like 2013 was the biggest soul crusher of the recent-ish past. 2021 is still mostly enjoyable.)

Low expectations the previous years. This year, Bo, Vlad, Springer....hopes were high.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Author Posted September 1, 2021 Thus ends my first game day thread of 2021...
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Feels like that's the season. I know, dumb post, but c'mon. Keegan Akin just beat Ryu at this point in the season...

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 lol we f***ing lost to the Orioles with 7+ ERA starter on the mound. Scored 2 runs This team is f***ing useless right now

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Feels like that's the season. I know, dumb post, but c'mon. Keegan Akin just beat Ryu at this point in the season... This game was a win minus another f***-up in the field, just like two of the Detroit games. Even the Monday win involved the whole infield colliding to whiff a pop-up and watch Bichette face-plant on the mound. They kind of look like goofs out there. My cracking point was actually when Cimber struck out Mullins on like three pitches after a lead-off walk scored because of a botched pick-off and bloopish hit to the 9-hitter after being gifted strike 2 in what might have been the worst strike call all year.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Feels like that's the season. I know, dumb post, but c'mon. Keegan Akin just beat Ryu at this point in the season... Season will feel like it's over tonight when Harvey beats us. However it won't be. It will be over when As take 2/3 in some soul crushing fashion.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Season will feel like it's tonight when Harvey beats us. However it won't be. It will be over when As take 2/3 in some soul crushing fashion. What will happen is Berrios will lay an egg in one of the games with the As, and Austin Martin will have a good night, and it will be obvious that yes it was just a hand injury that sapped the power. And Riley Adams will do something good as Brad hand sits at home. And maybe at some point this month Conine will hit his 40th homer... and yes he will strike out like 200 times in 100 minor games (well not exactly that much but almost), but still... And we will say 'we solved our 40 man roster problem... we didn't win the pennant, we lost some intrigue in the minors, Hand is at home, Berrios lost to the As, but we solved the 40 man roster problem. Something we can hang our hats on!'

(I still feel like 2013 was the biggest soul crusher of the recent-ish past. 2021 is still mostly enjoyable.) I'm a die hard since inception. I'm not as glass half full Jays fan as I'd like to be, and I'm no FO fanboy. So my wife is used to me Jays bitching. I find most Jays seasons frustrating, but this one is a whole new level. This pied piper narrative that Shatkins is playing for 4D chess and we will contend NEXT YEAR and well into the future, I just don't buy. I just don't see it...yet...at least. What gets easier in 2022 as Ray and Marcus WAR evaporates, unless we pay big $ just to get back to where we were. Guys are hitting Arb years. Whats it cost to give us a truly competitive bullpen next year? Our division is absolutely brutal, but its our reality. This team this year could have made a real push. We had a s*** pen, a s*** manager and no impact LHH options (no disrespect to Dickerson and Tellez didnt hit for us). All of those issues were addressable for a price. Nates looking like a semi-bust. There are some good looking positives in the farm to move or develop. We have some moveable semi-assets on the roster. We'll see. We are standing on our head to rationalize the Berrios deal, but this Board is/was full of wet dream posts about the assets we gave up...who are apparently worthless now. To me we half assed the deadline and poked a hole in the narrative about the thousand year Reich competitive team notion moving what we did for a year of Berrios to backstop Ray loss. Anyway...I'll be keeping an eye on tonight of course and the Jays but man this has been a rough one, save the emergence of Vlad.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 You can't lose to the f***ing Orioles.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 You can't lose to the f***ing Orioles. I mean, at the end of the day it’s baseball and it happens all the time. But at this point in the season with favorable matchups like Ryu vs Akin, I agree you cannot lose those games.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
