Cynical Verified Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 They decided to give Vladdy his first off day in ages during their first homestand in a couple of years? Talk about lack of common sense.

Talk about lack of common sense. We are still talking about this? If he got hurt playing today you would probably be in the crew that would be bitching about never giving him a day off.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Honestly probably not. A little more control is nice. But when I think of trading 2 elite prospects I would have preferred more of an ace type with an elite K rate. And would have added even more to land that type if available. I think the price was steep for Berriors not that I don’t like him. Clearly the Jays front office really really likes him. Marquez is younger, has much more control, and is arguably better than Berrios. In retrospect I'd definitely rather have traded that package plus another lower tier prospect for Marquez and feel much better about it. It was a seller's market and the supply of quality pitching is vastly smaller than the demand.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Berrios is settling nicely now.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Much needed quick inning for Berrios
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Biggio with s*** luck lately He’s hitting .219 on an average-ish babip. Accept it
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Berrios, Ryu, Ray is indeed a good mix to line up in a playoff series
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 He’s hitting .219 on an average-ish babip. Accept it Do you understand what 'lately' means
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 manbun is nasty in more than one way

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Dude got a man bun..........need to hit this guy.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 But it's not "two elite prospects". It's at best ONE elite prospect. And that one prospect is currently hitting with a .102 ISO and .383 SLG with serious defensive question marks, so his own status as an "elite" prospect is teetering on dangerous territory. We actually traded away two prospects who's tools/status have declined this season. They both fell on our own organizational rankings. This is EXACTLY what you want to see a team with a stacked minor league system do: you protect your most promising prospects and deal from the guys who you are less certain about. And this is fine perspective to have. Obviously both were under performing but it’s also only been a couple of months of under performance. SWR started the season on fire and then has struggled with command and lost velo on the Fastball. Austin Martin has been banged up and yea maybe the power is concern to some but it’s hard for me to imagine him not hitting. And the position versatility with high on base percentage was so intriguing to me because we just don’t have guys who get on base at high clips. I don’t like the trade. But it’s fine if others do. My dislike comes from the fact that it’s a move that was a little early to make. Without an extension it’s bit risking for my liking because at this point in time I don’t view the Jays as contenders. And this is very much a win now move. I understand we still have a full year of Berriors but we could very well lose him after that. Giving up both your best position player prospect and pitching prospect for a non elite player stings for me. If we made that trade for a Turner sign me up. That’s an elite player at his position. We gave up a lot for #2 Starter. If it was Martin or SWR and a host of lower level prospects would have been way more comfortable.
