RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Figured this deserved its own thread. Confirmed by multiple sources now the Jays will be back at the dome July 30th!!!!!!
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 16, 2021 Author Posted July 16, 2021 Capacity limits? No word yet, but will likely just follow the local guidelines for whichever stage we are in.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Will finally see Ryu and Ray pitch in Toronto
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Nice, glad I was wrong. Time to go on that second half run now.
Slyfisher Verified Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Finally!!! Hope this is the spark they need to make a serious run for the playoffs
John Balkabella Verified Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 All is not right with the world, but this makes things just a little bit better.

InsideThePark Verified Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Who knew this Jays commercial was 10 years too early
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Must have already had an agreement with the MLBPA. There's no way they'd have gone through all the trouble of approaching the government if they didn't have clearance with the league and players first.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Feels good man I believe 15,000 to s.tart
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Must have already had an agreement with the MLBPA. lol... that's what it was all about?

Yeah, my guess is whatever Shapiro proposed to them was already approved by the MLBPA, so if the country agrees to what was proposed, then it should be fine.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Who knew this Jays commercial was 10 years too early I was at that game...gives me chills, man.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Great news! Probably going to be a bigger hassle than usual for the players to enter/leave the country tho.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Feel like we're gonna have an open Dome regardless if it rains or not. The difference between the numbers of people allowed in a closed dome stadium vs an open one is too massive. Will we see our first real rain delay in Rogers Center history?

Very much doubt whether or not the dome is open has any bearing on allowable fan count
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 What do you mean? Very much doubt whether or not the dome is open has any bearing on allowable fan count There are different restrictions on capacity for indoor vs outdoor gatherings. I am assuming if the dome is open that it would be considered an outdoor gathering, which allows a lot more people at the games. A closed dome would be an indoor gathering, which allows a lot less people inside. Am i off here?

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I dunno man, I can easily see it being considered an outdoor gathering with no roof and the seats socially distanced. We'll find out soon enough. I would tend to think it would be considered indoors as well to determine seating capacity. As a domed stadium where it is possible to convert from an outdoor facility to an indoor facility based on weather, there would be a very strong possibility of the facility changing from outdoor to indoor on a game to game basis. If seating were based on outdoor capacity requirements and it were to start to rain, what would you do with the excess capacity that suddenly becomes an issue? Would half the fans be required to leave the stadium so that it would now meet indoor requirements?

That is exactly why I said the dome might remain an outdoor facility during all games and we might even see rain delays. They can the shut the roof during all other times when there are no fans in the seats. It makes the most economic sense.
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I know with selling tickets in advance this plan might not be so ideal but could they switch back and forth between capacities based on the weather forecast? If there's no chance of rain there's no reason they can't do outdoor capacities with the roof open and if it's likely to rain then leaving the roof open because you have too many fans there to watch a game that's not going to happen because you can't close the roof is dumb. The inbetween forecasts would be the tricky part
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I wonder if you’ll have to have a vaccine passport to go over the border in August. Did they say anything about that? I’ll have to look online for a fake one. It’s just some card stock so I imagine they’re easy to come by. My 18yo son just ordered an ID (for 21) for like $60 or something and I insisted he’d get scammed and instead his fake license is super legit with the holograms and everything and even scans as real. Access to all that stuff has come a long ways lol
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I dunno man, I can easily see it being considered an outdoor gathering with no roof and the seats socially distanced. We'll find out soon enough. It won't matter. They will have stadium specific seating maximums that have nothing to do with the general provincial classifications of indoors vs outdoors. But the place is literally inside doors and the fact that it has a retractable roof does not mean it is outside.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 They couldn't say it's "outdoors" and sell more tickets for a game and then have it pour rain and they have to close the dome and cancel seat sales. It will all be considered indoors.
