Checked the stats again. Espinal > Biggio at this point. Still. Again. Offensively and defensively. Maybe Biggio has more upside - but the board snipes by a couple regulars after every decent Biggio outing are not defending reality.

mcguire needs to be sent to aaa asap. Just terrible game again. Biggio has no business playing 3b. Won't make the playoffs with this defense

asap!

Nah, Biggio is just incredibly overrated

Extremely! Dude got hurt early in the season because he couldn't catch a damn ball so it hit his bare hand. 3B is definitely not the position for him. What value do you provide defensively if you suck at most positions?

His best asset is that he takes walks. He's still a good young player overall but extremely overrated in that i don't consider him part of the core.

He’s almost exactly like his projected tools (optimistically) that put him as 40 FV except when you plug him at 3b you have to subtract fielding and throwing quite a bit. His first year numbers are skewed with Trae Turner Bsr that wasn’t going to be sustainable

Solid piece to have if he’s not playing 3b but to hear him as main trade piece for one of best contract in baseball is just plain homerism

Well, on a trade for Ramirez(which isn't happening, making this moot), Biggio would be a main piece, him or Gurriel. Plus prospects like Groshans and Pearson added in, etc. As for the former of your post, you're an idiot.

Biggio's overall second year numbers were better than his first year without the high Bsr value. Take that 40FV nonsense and shove it man, that's just ridiculous. He obviously shouldn't be manning third base as he lacks the explosiveness required to be effective over there, but I fail to see why that's being used to hate on the guy so much. Since his return from the injured list Biggio's offensive numbers are right where you would expect them to be, and are largely in line with the underlying numbers that led to a 124 WRC+ in 2020.

I agree that Biggio won't move the needle much for trading towards an MVP caliber player like Ramirez, but I really don't get how it's suddenly so fashionable to hate on the guy because Keith Law is a miserable **** who refuses to admit that he was wrong about a player. I don't necessarily like moving Biggio around so much, as he was much better as a second baseman than any other position that's he been used at. Perhaps next season if Semien walks Biggio gets moved back to second, as that's a much better fit for his defensive skill set. He was improving over time and by most metrics was an average or better second baseman.

Semien walks, Kris Bryant signed, Biggio back to 2nd. Profit.

Not a huge fan of Bryant. A lot of the underlying metrics like exit velo/etc are trending in the wrong direction. He's not someone I'd commit term to.

Honestly, would rather sign a stopgap 3B until one of Groshans/Martin/Moreno crushes and assumes the position. Then we can spend our payroll on internal extensions to Ray, Vladdy & Bo and FA top-end SPs. Scherzer would top my list as a priority sign.

Nicely put. I'm a hobbyist and I'm into the sports card community and I routinely see people lumping Biggio in with Bo and Vlad. Hell, a lot of these guys are grading the higher end Biggio rookies as if they're this great investment and I can only roll my eyes.

I just don't see Biggio as being anything more than a journeyman type player, someone like Eric Sogard. Certainly there's nothing wrong with that, but I wouldn't exactly value the guy like he's some cornerstone of the franchise like a lot of fans do... Don't believe me? Jeeze, I thought for a second that you were crazy for comparing Biggio to Gurriel. In my mind I see Gurriel as having the much higher upside, but checking his FG page, I had no idea he's been so underwhelming.

I grew up loving the Jays, but as an adult I pay more attention to the rest of the league as a whole than strictly the Jays. I had no idea how s***** Lourdes has been this year.

Jays are fading fast in the east

Yep. Team's still about 2 years from competing IMO... Too many people got the wrong idea after the joke of the MLB season in 2020.

Great post man, just in case I forgot to mention.

He's been quite good lately, climbing rapidly in consideration to how he started out.

Cavan Biggio has amassed 4.0 career WAR in 939 plate appearances vs. Sogard's 4.2 WAR in 2484 plate appearances. Not exactly a great comparison, better try again.
