sportprof101 Verified Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Hello Blue Jays Fans, With the help of message board members beginning in 2014, we—the students and professors of the Know Rivalry Project—began answering this question and others related to rivalry in the MLB. Please help us update and expand our results to ensure that the Toronto Blue Jays are included by taking 9 minutes to complete our newest survey: https://umassamherst.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3FdJ8eN2EgFCfCB?mbsrc=krdir&grpID=1368 We want to start the rivalry conversation here. Fan data helps us to study rivalries that exist between teams, fans, and players. Our previous results have been featured in numerous sports media outlets, as well as the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. You can view those results, links to media coverage, and learn more about us at our KnowRivalry.com website BUT we'd prefer you didn't until you completed the survey via the link above... we don't want to influence your opinions provided in the survey. We use the Qualtrics online survey software for data collection. This academic research has been approved by two US universities' Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and it poses no risks to respondents. You'll find more information on the disclosure agreement that is required to start the survey. Thank you for helping us to include the Toronto Blue Jays by participating and please feel free to share this with any other fans that may also help. Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Was Texas but isn't anymore. This core will need to find their own rivals now that we're relevant again.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Was Texas but isn't anymore. This core will need to find their own rivals now that we're relevant again. Yeah, they're all in the AL EAST!
Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Looked at it and passed on doing it.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Rivals are clearly the Rays. Those pesky bastards.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 yeah I picked the Rays at #1, but honestly, I figure that's a one sided rivalry. Choose BAL next b/c f*** those guys, then split the rest between the Yanks and Sox. Also considered TEX, but I think that's done No clear rivals for us honestly.
Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Basically....whoever the Jays are playing. The Al East is just built that way!
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Yeah, they're all in the AL EAST! For there to be a rivalry, the other team needs to consider you a rival too. Rays/Yankees/Red Sox probably consider each other their rivals while we are not in the picture. This will probably change now that we're good again and hopefully can sustain it.

Meh... we really don't have a rivalry, I went with 4 teams at 25% in the East. That's who we're facing the most all season, every season.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 I went 30/30/30 (Rays/Yanks/Sox) and gave the Orioles 10% for basically existing in the AL East with the Jays and figure that's worth something. And one of these days they'll be competitive again.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 I needed clarification...I mean I wouldn't marry a Yankee fan...but I am never getting married again

Yankees fans completely hate the Jays. They're too smug to use the word "rivals" but they absolutely consider the Jays their rivals, especially with how often the Jays have beat them in recent times. The obvious two-sided rivalries were the Royals, Rangers and Orioles, but like others have said, those have mostly been put to bed at this point. The Rays are definitely a one-sided rivalry for the Jays. Don't think they care about Toronto nearly as much as Jays fans dread playing them.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 This survey is way too long. Worse than the long form census even
