Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Odor can't hit, can't catch. He's s***. You mean Odor stinks?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Not saying Zeuch has been great, I was just saying he hasn't been bad as expected nor as bad as you are suggesting. There were clear defensive failures that won't ever be captured in the stat book because of how the game is scored. To me, the Palacios play should have been an error and the misplays in his previous start should have been errors too. He is a fill in starter for a reason so I am happy he isnt as s***** as Roark. Those are my expectations here lol. No, Zeuch has literally been terrible. He has been exactly as terrible as most of us expected, arguably even worse. The defensive miscues are a distraction from the fact that he's not striking anyone out, giving up a ton of hard hit contact and having runners on base all the time. The "stat book" doesn't care about what the defense does because all it matters is that balls are being put into play in the first place; and importantly, they're not being put into play weakly so we can't say he's been unlucky. If Palacios catches that then Zeuch was lucky that allowing a 325 flyball didn't result in damage, same with any line drive that's hit off him and happens to find a glove.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 (edited) But he is as s***** as Roark. You may not understand what xERA is. Based on the exit velocity and angle off the bat - the ball hit to Palacios typically isn't caught. Zeuch was lucky it was right at someone (and then unlucky Palacios butchered it). Zeuch is awful. I looked at it slightly different. Judge should have been called out on strike 3 but wasn't because of the ump. Then he hits a homerun. Whether the ball was hit hard or not, Palacios should have caught that ball based on his positioning. There are hard hit balls all the time but your defensive position is supposed to help offset that. It is why teams shift. Again, not trying to say Zeuch has been good. Just feel he could have gotten away with less damage done to him if he had some luck go his way. He isn't talented enough right now to overcome any shortcomings from poor defense behind him. You also have to take into account that he's had 3 starts against some really good hitting teams (Yankees twice and Angels once). He hasn't had a chance to go up against a soft hitting team yet either. Numbers should also be adjusted for this. Edited April 15, 2021 by Jays24

You're reaching, man. So look at his FIP or xFIP, he's been brutal, I'm with you on that ball should've been caught, but he f***ing suxxxxxxxxxxxx He's like a really bad poor man's Sanchez.

I just edited my post to mention the quality of lineups he's gone against. And I'm not saying he's a keeper. A pitcher that needs all circumstances to go his way clearly has faults. I get it. I just haven't been disgusted with him like I have been with Roark going up against Texas.

At least Roark has an excuse to suck (Age/miles on arm). Zeuch just plain sucks.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Sigh. A month is not ideal with what we're throwing out there right now. Do any of Anibal Sanchez/Rick Porcello sound like options? I'm kind of surprised Porcello hasn't gotten a shot. He was better than his numbers last year. It'll at least be that, they won't rush him back.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Yeah, we signed The Big Diesel on empty. He might be pitching tonight? Would this not be regular day for Matz if we would of played on sunday. Why not just roll with him unless he wants to give the starters a break but why not.

I hope it is also...as far as I'm concerned Roark is strictly a mop up role blow-out games. Im sure after Pearson and hopefully Hatch comes back that some changes are in the works. Roark should be happy with his 12 million dollar golden handshake.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
