That's a risk they unfortunately were willing to take. His velo dropped in 2020 and his pitches this season (spring and tonight) look like s***. I thought maybe against s***** lineups he might be able to at least be decent, but this stuff is going to get destroyed by even half way decent offenses. Maybe the Rangers are bad enough to keep the Jays in the game long enough to outscore them.

It's very possible Davis stays on the roster when Springer is back while Tellez gets sent to the practice squad. That would be a bad look for Tellez but it is what it is, the team has playoff aspirations this year.
