Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 Shi Davidi wants to give him a few more starts https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-reason-give-roark-runway-despite-rough-outing-vs-rangers/ Shatkins mouthpiece confirmed. No one would dare say this publicly otherwise lol.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 You are right tho, man will it be nice to get Ray back. Ray is throwing today so we should know soon whether he's ready to rejoin the rotation. The question may be whether he replaces Roark or Zeuch.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 Shatkins mouthpiece confirmed. No one would dare say this publicly otherwise lol. I mean, his arguments are "$12M is a lot to throw away" and "pitching depth is important". Both are fair points. I'd like to see Roark sent off to the glue factory, but right now we have 3 pitchers out that would ideally be in his spot. Kay is the only reasonable option to replace him, and he'd be better for sure, but then what happens if another pitcher gets hurt? Sadly, we're stuck with him on the roster for a while, but in a perfect world he's in the bullpen sooner rather than later.

I'd say Ray replaces Roark this week (if his throwing sessions goes well) - Roark replaces Milone as the mop up guy. We run Zeuch out there again to see what he's got and if/when that goes sideways, we give Kay/Thornton a shot and hold down the fort until Pearson is back. I kind of which we'd just go sign Porcello though.

That would probably solve the $12M problem, but not the pitching depth problem. *shrug* honestly unsure as to the best move here, but I would like to see Roark out of the rotation ASAP.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 Zeuch has options, so I'm guessing Ray will replace him and not Roark, although I hope I'm wrong. I'm not the biggest Zoinks fan, but at least he throws harder now and is much more likely to GB his way to good starts than a 34 year old Roark throwing 90 mph BP.

I never want to see him pitch for the Jays again. At least Tommy Milone had some movement on his pitches.

That is a perfectly reasonable stance. I'd be happy if he never pitched for the Jays again, I do just worry that with enough injuries, we might have someone worse at some point...
