The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 What’s the chance we see Merryweather return to starting? Or is he in the BP for good.
Davie Verified Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 2 out of 3 against the Yankees at the Bronx to open up the season. good s*** Blue Jays
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 He got a starters arsenal but you don’t move him from the bullpen. With his injury history and him not being as young as most people think he is. You don’t touch him. Let him dominate in the pen.

I could see him moved to an opener role, and maybe see if he can work more than one inning in that capacity. He's been a starter his whole career.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 All the sweeter given an amazing shut down relief appearance by King got wasted, aside from saving their pen.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Merryweather just rolling in the sty with the pigs with that level of filth, jesus.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Grichuk providing some key hits in both wins. Look he’s not amazing, but its very important to have a guy like him on the roster. Veteran able to step right in to any spot in the OF when an injury occurs. I’m glad we didn’t trade away one of our outfielders, feels like we have more flexibility now

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I'm still trying to grasp how damn good Romano and Merryweather are, at league min to boot.

Not committed to Telez as a full time hitter

Ex Player Verified Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 If the "deadly duo" (Romano/Merryweather) keeps pitching like this we could be looking at 7 inning games from here on out
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Julian Merryweather: Debut: August 20, 2020 Rookie Status: Still Intact through 2021 2021 Contract Status: Pre-Arb Eligible Service Time (01/2021): 0.114 Arb Eligible: 2024 Free Agent: 2027
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Indeed!! I'm pumped I think Phelps and Boruki could be right there with them. Never comfortable with Dolis he walk a lot of guys

Never comfortable with Dolis he walk a lot of guys Agreed Spring training I kept optimistically thinking the bullpen was shaping up pretty well It's def not a weak spot Only the starting rotation is with the current injuries
Ex Player Verified Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 yes yes yes and yes I don't hear enough yes's
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 When's the last time a relief pitcher won rookie of the year?? (Ummm... Asking for a friend)

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Poor guy will have to retire by the time he becomes a free agent lol Sucks being a 29 year old rookie
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Merryweather has everything needed to be a starter, but he's 29, injury prone, and has not pitched much since 2017. If he was 24, then I think it's a no brainer you put him in the rotation, but current situation seems more logical for him to be a closer, especially if he's potentially this good.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I would love to see him as a starter, but honestly, how do you move him when he's just that f***ing dominant. He's looked incredible, but I'm not going to get comfortable. Dude has been made of glass. I'm going to enjoy every second that he's healthy but I won't allow my heart to be broken by him.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Yeah he looks like 2019 Rowdy. 2020 is looking like an aberration. He was 0 for his first 2 games last year too, and looked horrible through 10 games, really need 100 at bats to determine anything, if he 'learned' anything last year I doubt he forgot it, I do concede last year could of just been a random good 3 or 4 week stretch.
