Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 They could just put a fixed camera out in CF and stream it on YouTube. Better than nothing. I'm sure this is how the Astros line of thinking started too.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Shatkins: Congratulations, you've just been promoted to AA! Player: Damn it! It is an interesting point though. I wonder if teams will start to try to get all their farm teams in one location? From a player development standpoint, it would be absolutely ideal for all minor league players to have the consistency of the training facilities and personnel. I don't think the minor leaguers will have full access to all of these facilities, unfortunately for them. There's a reason why there are minor league specific facilities in the original video. This is probably more for ST, extended ST and the major leaguers on rehab during the year and offseason.

I can't imagine there isn't capacity at that facility for their AA to train there once spring training is over...
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Really? I can't imagine there isn't capacity at that facility for their AA to train there once spring training is over... There's more than enough space but despite all of the advancements, they still have this ******** antiquated idea of dangling the MLB-quality amenities at the complex as a brass ring for the minor leaguers to reach for instead of letting them get too comfortable. Personally, I hate that s***. Many of these players will never make the majors and I think they're motivated enough to get to the majors as it is. Let them enjoy a little taste of it while they can.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Really? I can't imagine there isn't capacity at that facility for their AA to train there once spring training is over... Yeah, I can see it happening, they're scheduled to start play in May, right?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Really? I can't imagine there isn't capacity at that facility for their AA to train there once spring training is over... I don't think it has anything to do with capacity, and more with what TL mentioned in the post below mine.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 I think it depends on the specific part of the facility. Weight room, hydrotherapy rooms, training rooms, classroom, discipline rooms, etc: I see no reason that the organization would not open those up completely to the minor leaguers when the MLB team is not also there. It would be a terrible waste of resources not to. 2,700 square foot Major league clubhouse: that one will probably be MLB players only, year round. MLB dining facility: This exists because the MLB players expect to eat a heck of a lot better than the minor league players. It might just get repurposed into a second general cafeteria when the full MLB team is not there. Like, the team chefs may travel back to Toronto with the team anyway? Barber shop: who knows, maybe that's a little MLB player perk

"The goal this year is to get as many innings as I can and stay healthy. Those are the only two goals that I have. I think the rest will take care of itself." Arden Zwelling @ArdenZwelling Pearson felt he was trying to paint corners too much last season. Wants to attack more aggressively in '21; and when he misses the zone, miss competitively instead of throwing waste pitches. Arden Zwelling @ArdenZwelling Pearson spent his off-season working to keep his slider harder & sharper in the 86-88 mph range; felt it got too slurvey when he threw it any slower last season. Also made strides with curveball which he plans to utilize more often in '21.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 26, 2021 Author Posted February 26, 2021 I’m very interested to see how we deploy this pitching staff. Besides Ryu, and maybe Matz if he bounces back, I think we’re going to be seeing a lot of piggybacking. There’s gonna be a lot of box scores that read something like 4 IP by Ray, followed by 2 IP by one of Stripling/Borucki/Chatwood, and then handing it off to Dolis-Romano-Yates. Obviously, ideally you want 5 workhorse starters who can give you a quality start every time, but we’re not there yet.

Not to mention most of these guys will be on some sort of inning workload because of the short season last year, I've said it plenty times they'll be piggy-backing that rotation and a carousel back and forth from the taxi squad or minors all year long. Not sure about that latter part, are they doing a taxi squad?

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 First lineup card of the year, let's go! This deserves its own thread no? And where are Springer Teo and Grichuk?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 This deserves its own thread no? And where are Springer Teo and Grichuk? Dude it's the first game of ST. They're not exactly going to trot out their game 7 lineup every game.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 I know they keep talking about positional flexibility but the other side of the discussion is getting players reps at their natural/most likely position. I hope the players that are locked into positions and/or are moving to new positions spend the majority of their time in those positions.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Dude it's the first game of ST. They're not exactly going to trot out their game 7 lineup every game. Maybe there was some injury or precaution they were taking with those guys. Was just curious.

No pretty standard your going to see another if mixed up lineups all the starters are rarely in the same lineup until later in spring
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 No pretty standard your going to see another if mixed up lineups all the starters are rarely in the same lineup until later in spring Oh I agree later on in the spring. People sitting out afterwards won't matter at all. Just wanted to know if there was something other than rest we had to consider with those 3 sitting out the first game. All good.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 It's an embarrassment that this piece of s*** network is airing the Yankees broadcast and can't put on their own production.

That's exactly what I thought when watching the opening just now. How f***ing hard is it to do your own production remotely? Such a joke
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 A very Spring Training start. Two guys swinging on the first pitch and an error in the outfield.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 That's exactly what I thought when watching the opening just now. Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Honestly, MLB should just do them all for spring games. Most teams only air a few of the games. No excuse for us though. The same company owns the team owns the broadcast rights. I can understand in a very down year to not give a crap but in a year where you have some legit excitement, you'd think they'd want to take advantage as much as possible.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Excellent at-bat. Bo already in mid-season form.

Oh, I think they should be too. Given that most teams don't though, I feel like MLB should just step in and make it happen. It's a good platform for them to push MLB subscriptions and merchandise anyhow. Maybe give players some free ads for their business ventures or charities too.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 In my opinion, it would be nice if Vladdy hit a 3-run bomb here.
