G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 Jays first in baseball in home runs and OPS. 2nd in BA.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Toronto's now tied in a WC spot, just saying, lol
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Heh, I was just thinking about how Danny Jansen doesn't seem like a useless butthole with the bat lately, so I went and looked at his game log. The guy has a f***ing .920 OPS since the start of May. 110 PA's Holy f***ing s***. That gives me a serious chubby. They should really look at moving Moreno to 3rd base.

Have had my eye on this for a while. People tend to put way too much stock into April numbers because they're the most visible small sample and then mask the hot streak as it pulls the numbers back into the ok or good range causing the numbers to look in the bad to average range the entire year. Now 110 PA isn't a large sample either with his injuries since then, but people love to s*** on Jansen for some reason. He's at worst a league average catcher and I think he's got potential to be quite a bit better than that too. He's not the 141 wRC+ catcher he's been since May either but his BABIP is much more reasonable(.295) in that stretch than his career which always seems to be hovering around the low .200's for reasons I still don't quite get
InvincibleTiger Verified Member Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Why are we throwing another lefty at the Orioles?
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Why are we throwing another lefty at the Orioles? I mean the rotation has three lefties, you absolute genius

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 So you cant shuffle the deck? You think it's a good idea to mess with the players' regular schedules and then have the team's worst starter (Matz) face the Rays instead of Baltimore?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Got 4 stressful innings out of Hatch yesterday. His change up is solid. Needs to command it better. Can he be a 4-5? Soria looks to have things back on track. Richards looked good. Change was filth. Pearson struggled in his 2nd inning but overall I like what I'm seeing. Been a big asset.

Ya, I don't think pitching is much of a weakness atm, probably top 10 MLB now. Even with the Ryu worry.
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 So you cant shuffle the deck? Considering they haven't had any recent days off I'm going to go with no? Unless you want someone going on 3 days rest for the first time all season. Perhaps if they planned it in advance but with 2 series before this one against the A's and Yankees and the next series against the Rays I would assume any pre-planning the order would have seen those games been more of a factor.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Semien now tied for the MLB WAR lead with Vlad at 6.3. We really need to re-sign this man.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Toronto's now tied in a WC spot, just saying, lol Well. The marathon is over now I guess. They're basically all at the starting blocks and it's a sprint to see who can get it done over the next 3 weeks.

His age and cost. He will likely want to play SS to get max value. FO already signed a 30+ free agent to a big deal. 2 more years of an aging Ryu. Enjoy what’s left of this season. I’d be completely shocked if he is back.

So basically none. Ray is the target. i think he's 50/50. As for replacing Semien, my gut tells me they'll be in on Trevor Story.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 The Shortstop Market this Off-Season is so deep. Even if he wants to play Shortstop there might not be a Shortstop job out there for him. Astros are going to want to retain Correa. I’m doubtful the Dodgers will let Seager walk. Baez and Story will test the market for sure. Maybe the Yankees go after Semien? The Giant’s are another team but he would have to play Second Base because Crawford is there. But that is his hometown team. I just don’t see who has the opening and money to beat out on Semien unless hes determined to play Shortstop and maybe not for a good team. The Phillies are the only other team that comes to mind.

Qualify him and enjoy the compensation pick, but I think a re-sign is unlikely.

Is Matz really the Jays worst starter? By basically every available metric he's pitched better than Ryu this season, and his numbers are comparable across the board to each of Berrios and Manoah.

Ryu has been absolute garbage lately. Matz has really turned it on since the All-Star break. He was actually a legitimate contender for pitcher of the month in August.

He's a solid 5th but he is the worst of the five by projected FIP and ERA. Not a massive gap between him and Manoah. Related point - Ryu might be at a talent inflection point that projections don't appreciate. He's been pretty s***** for a while. Is this him declining into a SP4 soft tosser for the rest of his contract?

Is this him declining into a SP4 soft tosser for the rest of his contract? Why should we care about what projections say when reality has been something completely different? Ryu has been torched for 7 runs in 3 of his last 7 starts totalling only 21 innings, whereas Matz has been pitching like a solid number 3 if not better.

If he was LHH it would be better for that park, but he is exactly what they need for next 3 years on offense and defense and just seems like a total pro.
