TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2021 Author Posted July 13, 2021 This is the guy who broke the original July 30 proposal before anyone else so he clearly knows someone involved in the process. If this report is accurate, I can't imagine the MLB or the MLBPA agreeing to any proposal that involves leaving unvaccinated players at home.

With players having to quarantine inside their hotel I really don't see why they can't be allowed into the country in that scenario.

If that guy's right, our government's a joke.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2021 Author Posted July 13, 2021 Hopefully the government is still open to talking about it and this isn't the final call. If it is then there definitely won't be baseball in Toronto until the pandemic is over. Edit: Looks like the Jays are still negotiating the conditions (again, if this Twitter user is to be believed):
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 Oh s***, missed TL's tweet, nvm. If that guy's right, our government's a joke. I really don't see why there should be an exception made for baseball players.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 I really don't see why there should be an exception made for baseball players. They just did it for the NHL, in Montreal? Vegas and Tampa players crossed the border.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 I mean the border wont be closed to unvaccinated people anyways. Let them stay in the RC hotel. Airport to hotel to ballpark back to airport. The odds of a MLB player who is probably tested daily coming to Canada with covid and spreading are slim as hell.

Otherwise Blue jays and Raptors are done in Toronto. You will never have the entire league vaccinated and leaving players at home isn't an option. Is every single person, movie actor, business person, trucker, etc., etc. entering Canada right now vaccinated? Going forward do they all have to be vaccinated ? Won't happen. I'm vaccinated and encourage others to. Vaccine passports though, end a lot of things in Canada. If that's what Canadians want, have at it. Happy to live in America right now. Have seen 4 games already this year, great seats available in Buffalo, will enjoy that for the rest of the year, then I guess North Carolina gets the Blue Jays. Or I don't know... maybe Vaccine passports are only for a few months and they work it out next year....

If our GVMT cock blocks this they're just a bunch of *******s out for political gain, most namely Ford and Trudeau, corrupt ****s.

So they play in Buffalo the rest of this year, because of the vaccine passport issue. Trudeau from what I hear is going to call an election and win a landslide (maybe wrong on that). So next year he lets the unvaccinated baseball players in? I guess so if the situation is better. During the Blue Jays August and September ban I guarantee you thousands of unvaccinated truckers, farm hands, and electricians with venereal disease combined with COVID will all be wondering in... the border is not that closed, just "politically" closed.

They let tonnes of these people through, everyday, safe test, you're through. Trudeau's a joke, never mind the open road for refugees in Quebec. lol

I suspect it has more to do with not wanting people in the stands, and if the Jays are playing here, the pressure will be amped up to allow a packed house.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 If this is Ontario's target to get 1st dose at 85% and second dose at 75% for the next step, I don't see too much of an issue letting teams through the border. But I would prefer that as an exemption to baseball cause the rest of the US is doing a s***** job at getting vaccines and after July 4th weekends their numbers are tripling.

Getting to 85% with one dose is going to be the challenge. This reopening is being done the right way. Once reopened this time, there should not be another surge, except on a local scale in community pockets. The average Cdn does not give a f*** if the Jays are playing in Toronto or Buffalo, the impetus to make an exemption is just not there. Plus even if an exemption is given, restrictions attached to the exemption will need to be accepted by the union, which will likely opt for the freedom in Buffalo vs restrictions in Toronto.

It doesn't matter what percentage of people care about the Jays, it matters what percentage care about something that requires a more open border (a different sports team, business connections, an arts event, relatives, a business that needs tourists, etc, etc, etc,). Otherwise our politics will get even worse. If they let Calgary Stampede horse jumpers or something in, and an NHL team, but not the Jays, then it just becomes toxic favoritism and cronyism. So we need to figure out what "non-essential" events need a more open border, and how many people want those sort of things. Then if enough of our population all has "something" they want, make a work-exception for "event performers and help" which requires full vaccination or daily testing.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 I forgot music concerts in above post. See if we cherry pick we just get the things one person likes. I assume there will be some exceptions for some "arts" and "music" events the next couple of months. Maybe I am wrong. However if Justin's medical team are all big classical music fans, they'll probably make an exception for world famous flutists, no one will know about it or care... I guess that is the problem with the Jays, too American and too high profile. Sorry about the politics... I could care less discussing politics here, except as it pertains to where the team plays, and right now the issue is political.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 I think we have to accept the fact that the Jays are going to spend the entire season in Buffalo. If Canada forces anything on the players (vaccinations, quarantining, etc) it's not going to go over well with the MLBPA, and given how slow the Canadian government has been in this whole process, I'd be shocked if they'd allow more fans at RC than they currently allow in Buffalo. I'd love if the Jays went on a huge 2nd half run, made the playoffs, were granted permission to play in Toronto again, but then told Canada that they'd rather host the playoff games in Buffalo. It won't happen, but pettiness can be appropriate some times.

Trudeau asks them back in October after banning them for 2 years? Or doesn't and then they go deep into the playoffs or even win? What does Trudeau, Ford and other Politicians do then? Do they even acknowledge they won? No chance anyone from Canada could give them a congratulatory message, what would they say? Justin - "I'd like to congratulate the Blue Jays, formerly of Toronto for winning the 2021 World Series, to save you, my loved Canadians I kept those unvaccinated, dirty, orange-man voting baseball players away. I kept my flock safe from the bad people, you are loved, now enough about the Blue Jays vote me back in. I love you!" This is why if they aren't back they should trade Ray and Semien. As a Blue Jays fan seeing a deep playoff run in Buffalo would be a bizarre thing I wouldn't want to deal with.

I'm actually rooting for that exact scenario (not trading Ray and Semien, the part before that). Winning a World Series in Buffalo would be poetic justice.
