TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Author Posted June 14, 2021 If this team can hang around .500 against Boston and New York this week and then make up some ground against Baltimore and Miami they will be well positioned to make a run at the deadline. Both through trade and internal additions. Not many teams are going to be adding: Springer, Merryweather, Kirk, Hatch, Murphy et al between now and July. I'm personally not okay with just splitting the next four games. I want the Jays to finish the job against the Red Sox today and then go into Buffalo looking for a sweep of the Yankees. New York isn't nearly as good as the standings show. They just fielded a lineup yesterday where the highest OPS was the .741 of Gary Sanchez. And they were in the National League where they could pinch hit. They've had an absolutely brutal time scoring runs and the Jays should absolutely be looking for a series sweep here, with a 2-1 win as the least acceptable scenario.
Bluebombers Verified Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Agree completely. They have been sending out lineups with 4 sometimes 5 guys hitting below mendoza/ overbay line. Abysmal b/a few
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 That's the best lineup we've seen in ages, the only easy out in McGuire at the bottom of the order.

That is a fair point, I don't think I realized how poor the Yankees lineup has been this year.
Ray Verified Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Steven Matz diagnosed with COVID. He’s symptom free, but he’ll presumably still be unavailable for about 2 weeks. Thomas Hatch to get the start in his place?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Steven Matz diagnosed with COVID. He’s symptom free, but he’ll presumably still be unavailable for about 2 weeks. What a f***ing idiot *******. Get your f***ing vaccination, dumbass.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 What a f***ing idiot *******. Get your f***ing vaccination, dumbass. We don't know whether he's been vaccinated or not. The Yankees outbreak was largely unvaccinated individuals if I recall correctly.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Author Posted June 14, 2021 What a f***ing idiot *******. Get your f***ing vaccination, dumbass. He's definitely an idiot if he hasn't gotten it, but do we know for sure that he hasn't? Half the Yankees team caught COVID and Nevin nearly died from it even though they were all fully vaccinated beforehand.

I don't think any plays got COVID except for Torres, who was back in 8 days because he had been vaccinated (didn't have to wait the full 10, only had to wait until a negative test). I think 7 coach's including Nevin got it, and Nevin is the only one who had symptoms, and it sounds like he had other issues going on.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 We know not everybody on the Jays is vaccinated, because they only last week hit the 85% vaccination threshold to allow them to forego masks in the dugout. Until I hear otherwise I'm going to assume that Matz is a regressive anti-vaxxing NRA zealot who voted for Trump and probably stormed the capitol. If he was vaxed, I'm sure he will make a point of stating so to reporters. If not, safe to assume he's a f***ing dumbass.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Breakthrough covid cases are thing, so him getting covid doesnt really suggest anything.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Breakthrough covid cases are thing, so him getting covid doesnt really suggest anything. That's like saying people get hit by lightning so finding a dead body by the side of the road doesn't suggest foul play. It definitely suggests he didn't get vaxed, as we know factually that vaccinated individuals have 90%+ immunity. It's not a certainty, but it's absolutely a valid inference.

No one really cares, but theres nothing to gain from it.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 This should end any arguments. There are a number of reasons he could have tested positive, even if he is vaccinated. It's considerably more likely that he isn't vaccinated, but certainly not enough to make any conclusions. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/effectiveness/why-measure-effectiveness/breakthrough-cases.html

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Really should have traded for Matt Wisler two days ago
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Jays should consider taking on Donaldson's contract if it allows them to acquire Rogers, TBH.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Don't think the Twins are selling to that degree. They would probably only sell expirings like Cruz and Simmons. I dunno... they have an old team, a distended payroll (by their standards), and this season is a total write-off. Rogers and Donaldson are only under contract through next season. Logically they should consider trading those players if they can clear payroll and acquire a Top 100 prospect or two.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Jays should consider taking on Donaldson's contract if it allows them to acquire Rogers, TBH. Get Stashak while they're at it, Twins misuse that pen big time.
BCZ Verified Member Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 I know the WAR doesn't compute this but I honestly feel like we would have won at least 3 more games than we lost if Springer was in the everyday line-up.
