Moving Bo off short stop isn't going to magically fix the defensive miscues unfortunately. He's had trouble handling balls cleanly and ends up having to rush his throws a good chunk of the time. This will continue to cause exactly the same issues whether he's at short, third or second base. Maybe a position move has him handling the ball less often though.

Dealing with the same bobbles at 2nd would be easier since the throw is much shorter to 1st. It's also just an easier position to play in comparison with a lot less pressure. Let's see though, hope he can prove most of us wrong.

How about we let Bo reach a full seasons worth of games at SS before we start seriously talking about moving him off the position

It depends if they want to be competitive or not. If were in June and hes still not making the plays you kind of have to consider alternatives. The expectations for this team might be a year ahead of schedule anyway. But nothing has gone smoothly so far either. Sucks to not have your star player from Day 1 and missing half your rotation.

I don't think it's that simple. You don't have to let every player "fail" at the best position they might be able to play.

Machado going straight to 3B was a fantastic decision by the s*** birds, for example. He was an uber-elite 3B and likely more valuable there than he would have been at shortstop.

Bo's internal clock might be a bit too tightly wound for short. Less thinky more grabby throwy might suit him better.

I know its only one game but considering spring training numbers as well, would you lift Espinal/Palacios for Biggio/Gurriel after their performance?

Machado did end up getting about 140 games at SS once JJ Hardy left though. Different situation all around, I think the problem there was he just didn’t play SS for so long that he lost the skill there.

We don’t have a franchise shortstop at the moment, yes we have Semien but he’s a stopgap. Give Bo the opportunity and let him fail.

No. But I would replace Panik with Espinal, which we should have done to start the year anyway.

You clowns making a mountain out of a mole hill... I Said Good Day!

I know you are the eternal optimist and don't panic, but whether it was Gurriel 2B or Vlad 3B etc if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck its a duck...Bo has hands issues. Certain issues just don't always improve no matter how many reps. I even see it coaching little league year after year.

Bo bobbled another in a romp last night. That matters especially at SS with the long throw. Not as sure as some others his leash is that long. I don't think he is an MLB SS but would love to be wrong.

Absolutely. So sick of Panik ABs already. Montoyo, Tabby and the vetrin presents "he is just a ballplayer" bs needs to end now.

hahaha no. I would like to see both guys stick around on the bench but they are not displacing anyone as a starter. I would definitely keep Espinal over Panik and when Springer returns id like to keep Davis/Palacios over Tellez.

But BC...

Tabby: He understands the game

Buck: He's been there before

Tabby: He's DONE IT at the major league level!

Buck: He won a World Series with San Francisco!

And

Wait for it ...

Tabby: He plays the game the RIGHT WAY

(Omg sorry lol)

When Springer comes back and Tellez is demoted, here is my ideal lineup.

Springer CF

Bichette 2B

Semien SS

Vladito DH

Hernandez RF

Gurriel 1B

Biggio 3B

Grichuk LF

Jansen/Kirk C

Yes, that is Gurriel at 1B. Won't happen but the above is probably the best defensive alignment

I mean, if Espinal and Panik were a wash, that's one thing, but Espinal is clearly better.

I didn't get to watch Espinal play

What are the reports on his defense?

I'm not sure that you can just assume Gurriel would be a better 1B than Vladdy.

He passes the eye test easily. Made a REALLY nice barehanded play at 3B last night.

If only we had a domed stadium to play April games in......

That's some far fetched dreaming but I'm sure one day we'll see it happen lol

Looks like today's game will be delayed for a few hours according to the weather forecast

Florida rainy season starts just about now. Not sure if Dunedin was a wise choice

Could we lease the Trop to play there when the Rays are out of town?

Why not just tell the League we'll take automatic losses for all our home games :)
